S80

S80 slow thinner (for PU and acrylic)

Slow thinner for polyurethane and acrylic coatings. Brings lacquers, enamels and primers to working viscosity, improves flow-out and lets the film dry evenly, cutting down on runs, bubbles and other defects. Does not shift colour. The go-to for dead-flat and high-gloss finishes, hot shops and big flat panels.

  • Reducing 2K acrylic lacquers, enamels and primers (ATL20, ATL50, ATL90, ATL200, ATL503, APL20, ATS20) — instead of S50 in heat and on flat work
  • Reducing PU lacquers (PTL50, PTL60, PTL90, PTL200, LGA531–536) and PU enamels/converters (PPL200, PPL100, PTL100, LKR6AB16)
  • High-gloss (100 gloss) and dead-flat finishes where flow-out matters
  • The only thinner listed for PTL60 (worktop lacquer), and for PPL100 in the catalog

vs S70
Catalog gives S70 and S80 identical properties; the official site gives S80 a density (0.84 ± 0.01) and S70 none. Where a host sheet lists both, treat them as interchangeable; where it lists S80 only (PTL60, PPL100), use S80; where the official page lists S70 only (ATL500, PPL200, PPL500, PTL500) S80 is backed only by the catalog/schedules.recommended
Effect on cure
does not change the 2K cure chemistry or pot life; dust-free and time-to-sand run somewhat longer, especially on thick or cool coatsrecommended

Application

HVLP

Nozzle
unchanged — set by the host product (≈1.3–1.5 mm for thin clear acrylic/PU lacquers, 1.7–2.0 mm for high-solids primers and gloss enamels)recommended
Pressure · air
per host product; e.g. ATL50 G: 2.0–2.2 bar inlet with trigger pulled, ≤0.7 bar at the caprecommended
Spray viscosity
thin the host product to ~18–22 s DIN4 / VZ-4 at 20 °C, staying inside the % its datasheet allowsrecommended
Flash-off
allow roughly 25–50 % longer between passes/coats than with S50recommended

On verticals lay lighter passes with S80 — slow solvent runs. The film stays open longer, so it picks up more dust in a dirty booth. In return: less dry spray and better flow-out on gloss.

Conventional spray

Pressure · air
per host product, typically 2.5–3.5 bar at the gunrecommended

Nozzle and pressure follow the host product. S80 helps against dry overspray at high atomising pressure.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Nozzle
per host product, typically 09–11 thou (0.23–0.28 mm) tips for 2K lacquers, 11–13 thou (0.28–0.33 mm) for enamels/primersrecommended
Pressure · fluid
per host product, typically 40–80 bar fluid, 1–2 bar atomising airrecommended
Pressure · air
1–2 barrecommended

On a warm production line S80 extends flow-out.

Airless

Nozzle
per host product, typically 11–13 thou (0.28–0.33 mm)recommended
Pressure · fluid
per host product, typically 100–150 barrecommended

The official coffin schedule runs PTL500 + C200 70 % + S80 40 % through airless on a robot.

Process and compatibility

Temperature and humidity
Above ~25 °C, in dry air, on big flat panels, gloss and dead-flat work. At 18–22 °C on verticals use S50 (fewer runs, less dust).recommended

  • No Technocolor TDS/SDS PDF found (web search budget exhausted this session; woodonline offers TDS only on request).
  • t-colormarket.ru page has no 'Все технические характеристики' block for S80 — only description, properties, application, packaging.
  • Composition / solvent blend, flash point, boiling range and numeric evaporation rate (BuAc = 1) not published.
  • Shelf life and storage temperature not published.
  • What distinguishes S70 from S80 is not documented (identical catalog properties).
  • Solvency: catalog says 'medium', dealer says 'good'.
  • Catalog doses don't say weight vs volume and differ from official pages for some hosts (e.g. ATL200 catalog 30–40 % vs official 20–30 % by weight; PTL200 30–40 % vs 20–30 %; PTL100 30–40 % vs 20–40 %; ATL90 catalog lists S50 too).
  • Schedules use older hardener codes C40/C50/C200 and don't state weight vs volume.
  • ATL500, PPL200, PPL500, PTL500: official pages list S70 only (20–30 % by weight); S80 comes from the catalog (S70, S80) and the schedules (PPL200/PTL500 + S80 40 %). PPL100, ATL203, ATL2, APL RAL have no local official page — S80 from catalog only.
