ATS20
ATS20 Clear acrylic primer (sealer)
Two-pack (2K, cured with AC40) clear acrylic primer/sealer for wood. Good physical and chemical resistance, non-yellowing over time, and it brings out the grain in open-pore finishes. Wets out very well and sands easily; a good pick for coarse-grained woods (oak, ash) where lightfastness and clean colour matter. Can also go over enamels ahead of a patina. The dealer reports a reformulated version with better wetting (no bubbles or pinholes on ash veneer), pores sealed and clearly defined once dry, and no change in sandability or in the stain colour under the primer.
- Kitchen and bathroom furniture, any wood species (TDS, dealer)
- Open-pore finishing of coarse-grained woods (oak, ash)
- Light-coloured furniture where non-yellowing matters
- Interior doors, cabinet fronts, mouldings, handrails, slatted and wall panels, T&G boarding; solid wood, veneer and plywood
- Primer over enamel ahead of a patina
- Washcoat/barrier coat under epoxy pours

Mixing matrix
- AC40Hardener% by weight: 20 %official% by volume: 20 %official
Standard hardener - the only one on the official page and at the dealer. Fixed 20 %, mix by weight on scales.
Aliphatic; the most yellowing-resistant Technocolor hardener (catalog p.19). The 2017 TDS and the schedules call it C40 - the older name of AC40 (same description, 'PU hardener for acrylic coatings'). Workshop notes: AC40 fixed at 20 %.
- AC41Hardener% by weight: 20 %catalog
Alternative to AC40, listed only in the 2025-26 catalog (not on the official page or at the dealer).
On the catalog chart AC41 is also aliphatic, ≈36 % solids, a touch faster/harder and slightly less non-yellowing than AC40. No % by volume published.
- S50Thinner% by weight: 30–40 (typ. 35) %official% by volume: 30–45 %official
Default thinner: medium evaporation rate, 18–25 °C, vertical surfaces.
Does not change cure time (workshop).
- S80Thinner% by weight: 30–40 %official% by volume: 30–45 %official
Slow: above ~25 °C, large panels, when you want more open time and flow.
More sag and dust-pickup risk (workshop).
- S30Thinner% by weight: 30–40 %official% by volume: 30–45 %official
Fast thinner (catalog p.19) - listed only on the official page; for a cold shop below ~18 °C or small parts.
Fast flash can give dry spray and poorer pore wetting - avoid in warm conditions.
- AC40Hardener% by weight: 20 %schedule
The schedule writes the hardener as 'C40 : 20%' - the older name of AC40 (the 2017 TDS uses it too), not a typo.
- S50Thinner% by weight: 30 %schedule
Schedule 'Open-pore oak kitchen fronts (acrylic)': ATS20 100 / AC40 20 / S50 30, 150 g/m², dry 1.5 h at 30–35 °C.
- AC40Hardener% by weight: 20 %workshop
Thinned washcoat.
- % by weight: 60–90 (typ. 75) %workshop
Washcoat under epoxy or as a sealing first coat: ~70 g/m², 2 light coats, recoat after 20–30 min, wait 24 h before epoxy.
Outside Technocolor's 30–40 % range - this is the owner's own practice. The workshop note gives no thinner code; S50/S80 assumed from the main recipe.

Lay on a full wet coat so the primer gets into the pores, but don't let it pool in oak/ash grain. Go easy on verticals - it isn't thixotropic.

Safety: Technocolor TDS: use respiratory, hand and eye protection and workwear; keep away from children; dispose of waste at a licensed site, do not release to the environment. In addition (generic 2K PU/acrylic practice): AC40 (C40) is an isocyanate hardener - spray in an extracted booth with an A2/P2 or better respirator; material and thinners are flammable.
