CGS — Glazes (pigmented wiping stains)

Pigmented wiping stains (glazes) based on natural-origin pigments. They give natural, slightly muted tones, even out colour variation in the wood and pick out the pores. The long open time makes them workable on large panels. Not a protective coat on their own — always overcoat with primer and lacquer.

  • Furniture in open-grain timber — oak, ash, etc. (solid and veneer)
  • Open-pore finishing of oak kitchen fronts (acrylic system)
  • Per the official CGS10/24/25/26/27/28 pages — exterior timber (decks, gazebos, garden furniture, cladding, fences) — see note

Stir well before use — the pigment settles. Spray an even wet coat, then rub it into the pores with a brush/rag along the grain, taking the excess off the flats.

Don'ts
  • Don't leave the glaze uncoated — it is not a finish (dealer).
  • Don't sand the glaze coat.
  • Don't prime while a white rag still lifts colour.
  • Don't leave excess on the flats — poor primer adhesion and a muddy look.
