S12

S12 thinner for nitrocellulose (NC) materials and stains

Medium-evaporation thinner. The official page says it is for cutting dyes; the catalog and the dealer specify stains on medium-pored timber. It is also the only thinner listed for NTL20 SM nitro lacquer.

  • Cutting CTU, CLT and CIT transparent dyes, 500–1000 % (CIT up to 2000 %)
  • Cutting CPS solvent pigment stains, 500–1000 % (concentrates up to 2000 %)
  • CTU 100 : CFS1 150–200 : S12 500 mix in the Technocolor schedules
  • Thinning NTL20 SM nitro lacquer, 25–40 %

Spraying the dye on medium-pored timber (oak, walnut, cherry and similar), 80–100 g/m².

S10 is the fast one for fine-pored wood, S90 the slow one for open-pored wood; S12 sits in the middle.

    Schedule 'Raised-panel doors (PU)': stain at 80–100 g/m², dry 5 min at 20–25 °C, then PTS20 + C25 primer.

Why ru

S12 is never sprayed on its own — this is how the stain cut with S12 (500–1000 %) goes on. The mix is basically solvent-thin: small 1.0–1.3 mm tip, wide fan, one even wet pass without puddling in the pores. Profiles can be wiped back with a rag after spraying. This setup is not for NTL20 SM nitro lacquer (120–150 g/m²), which needs a normal lacquer tip.

Why ru
Очень маловязким смесям в airmix нужны только мелкое сопло и низкое давление материала; более крупные сопла/давление заливают поверхность. Типичная настройка для морилок в деревообработке.

For production staining with S12-cut stains; keep fluid pressure at the bottom of the range or it runs on verticals.

Choosing
Fine pores (beech, birch, maple) → S10; medium pores (oak, walnut, cherry) → S12; open pores, big panels or hot shop → S90. The slower the thinner, the deeper and more even the dye soaks into the pores, but the longer the wait before priming.catalog
Temperature and humidity
stain dried 5 min before priming: 20–25 °C (raised-panel doors PU schedule) / 25–30 °C (mouldings UV schedule)schedule
Don'ts
  • Don't use S12 to thin 2K PU/acrylic materials — those take S13/S30/S31/S50/S70/S80.
  • It is not a hardener and does nothing for cure.
  • Don't prime over wet stain: at least 5 min at 20–30 °C, longer on open-pored wood.
