CLT44
CLT44 Kromolux dye concentrate, Milanese walnut
Kromolux (made by MILESI) concentrated transparent dye stain, Milanese walnut, a walnut-brown shade. Very even colour and high strength, so you can go dark and still keep the wood clear. Cut with water or solvent, with or without a binder. Every dye in the range mixes with the others in any ratio. Per the series TDS it can be topcoated with polyester, polyurethane and nitrocellulose lacquers.
- Colouring all kinds of wood, veneer or solid
- Walnut tones that keep the grain visible
- A base for mixing your own shades with other Kromolux dyes

Mixing matrix
- S10Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %dealer% by volume: 500–1000 %dealer
Fast thinner: stain on fine-pored timber (beech, birch, maple, alder, cherry), or a cool shop.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- S12Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %dealer% by volume: 500–1000 %dealer
Medium evaporation: stain on medium-pored timber. The sensible default.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- S90Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %dealer% by volume: 500–1000 %dealer
Slow: stain on open-pored timber (oak, ash, walnut), big panels or hot weather. Fewer stripes and blotches.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- LZC97Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official
Listed as an approved thinner on the official pages of the other Kromolux dyes (CLT1–CLT10).
The CLT44 dealer page doesn't list LZC97. The data comes from sibling pages in the same series (same chemistry). LZC97's own properties are unpublished.
- WATERThinner% by weight: 500–1000 %dealer% by volume: 500–1000 %dealer
Water dilution, when you want a solvent-free stain. Deionised water only.
Dealer note: use only deionised water, or the dye can flocculate and lose colour stability in the can. Water raises the grain, so wet, dry and sand the wood before staining (official wood-prep page).
- CFH1Additive% by weight: 0–200 %dealer% by volume: 0–200 %dealer
Spray binder for the water-borne system: use it when the concentrate is cut with deionised water.
0 % = straight dye, no binder. The binder locks the dye in, cuts bleed into the next sealer coat and evens out absorption. CFH1 is the water-borne binder (H = water series, as in CTH/CPH; the official schedules use a CTH + CFH1 + water mix). The dealer table lists the codes and names in opposite order ('CFH1 / CFS1 — solvent / water binder'); that is an ordering slip, not a reversed pairing.
- CFS1Additive% by weight: 0–200 %dealer% by volume: 0–200 %dealer
Spray binder for the solvent-borne system: use it when the concentrate is cut with S10/S12/S90.
CFS1 is the solvent-borne binder (S = solvent series, as in CPS). The official CLT10 page backs this up: white CLT10 can't be cut with water, and CFS1 is the only binder it lists.
Milesi's suggested solvent dilution for the range.
LZC1000 is a Milesi thinner that Technocolor doesn't sell; in Technocolor practice S10/S12/S90 take its place (dealer table). Series data; CLT44 isn't named in the TDS.
- LZC97 / WATERThinner
Milesi's suggested water dilution for the range (LZC97 acts as co-solvent).
Deionised water only (dealer). Goes past the dealer's 500–1000 % range, so the shade comes out lighter.
- % by weight: 500–800 %datasheet
Series TDS: manual spray and fixed airmix/airless/swinging-arm automatics 500–800 %; rotating (carousel) automatics 700–1500 %.
Series-level Milesi TDS for the whole CLT Kromolux range (rev. I, Oct 2006). CLT44 is NOT named in it (it lists CLT1–12, 18, 19), so treat it as same-chemistry series data, not a CLT44-specific figure.

For production runs. Skip airless for stain: too much material, and it blotches.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Sand solid wood or veneer to P150–P180 (open-pored up to P180, fine-pored P180–P220) and de-dust. If you dilute with water, pre-wet, dry and knock back the raised grain first.recommended
- Goes over
- bare wood
- Goes under
- ATS20
- Sanding
- Don't sand the stain. The first denib goes on the first sealer coat.recommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 15–25 °C, RH 50–70 %; above ~25 °C use slow S90recommended
- Don'ts
- Don't cut it with tap water. Deionised only (dealer).
- Don't lay it on in one heavy coat. You get blotches and runs.
- Don't seal before the solvent or water has fully gone.
Storage
- Packaging
- 1 Ldealer
- Shelf life
- 8 months from deliverydatasheet
- Storage temperature
- 18–25 °C, tightly closed, protected from moisturedatasheet
Safety: (Generic advice, not from an SDS.) Once cut with S10/S12/S90 it is highly flammable. Spray in an extracted booth, wear an A2-filter respirator and nitrile gloves, and keep it away from ignition sources. I couldn't find an SDS for CLT44.

- No official t-color.ru page for CLT44; all CLT44-specific data comes from the dealer page (description, 80–100 g/m², S10/S12/S90/water 500–1000 %, CFH1/CFS1 0–200 % (dealer prints the ОР/ВР names in reverse order to the codes), viscosity 24±2, 1 L)
