CPS044

CPS044 Solvent-borne pigment stain, bog oak (fumed/ebonised oak look)

Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, ready colour 'bog oak' — a deep dark-brown tone that mimics fumed/bog oak. Evens out colour variation and hides wood defects, levels well, good lightfastness. Supplied ready to spray: use neat or let down with up to 100 % thinner. Intermixes with other CPS colours and solvent-borne stains for custom shades.

  • Staining furniture in any wood species
  • Bog-oak look on oak, ash and pale species (beech, birch, alder)
  • Evening out colour variation in veneer and solid wood under a dark tone

Can be sprayed neat (full depth) or let down up to 1:1 — more thinner = lighter, more transparent. Dial it in on a sample board and record by weight.

The 2025/26 catalog gives 500-1000 % for the CPS series; the 2022 catalog and the official CPS9/CPS10 concentrate cards give 500-2000 % (by weight and by volume). These are concentrate figures; for ready colour CPS044 the dealer gives 0-100 %.

  • CFS1 / CFS3 / CFS4Additive
    % by weight: 0–400 %catalog% by volume: 0–400 %official

CFS1 for spraying; CFS3 for roller coating; CFS4 for wiping (Technocolor catalog binder table, readkong copy). The dealer card for sibling CPS22 gives CFS1 at 20-40 %.

No binder on the CPS044 dealer card — it is optional. Needed for wiping (CFS4) or roller coating (CFS3); for spraying, CFS1 improves evenness and adhesion of the next coat. Test on a sample first.

  • CFC3Additive
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

Official UV schedule for flat anegre-veneered panels: 60-80 g/m², 5 min flash at 20-25 °C. The schedule does not state the application method (60-80 g/m² matches spraying, not the 10-20 g/m² roller rate).

CFC3 appears nowhere else — probably the roller binder (CFS3). Confirm with Technocolor.

  • S90Thinner

Official UV schedule for flat anegre-veneered panels: 60-80 g/m², 5 min flash at 20-25 °C. The schedule does not state the application method (60-80 g/m² matches spraying, not the 10-20 g/m² roller rate).

  • CPSAdditive

For a custom shade: mixes with other CPS colours (CPS9 to deepen, CPS22/CPS23 walnuts to lighten/warm up) and solvent-borne stains (CTU).

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes much darker — very visible with a dark tone). Always make a sample on the same species: bog oak lands with more contrast on pale woods.

Cloth or pad

The CPS044 dealer card lists spraying only; spray-and-wipe comes from the CPS series catalog data and needs a binder. Wiping with a sponge or soft rag removes the excess after spraying.

Roller coater (UV)

Flat parts on a roller-coater line only; the series uses binder CFS3 for rollers. The official UV (anegre) schedule uses 60-80 g/m² without naming the method — more like spraying; there the stain flashes 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.
