Solvent-borne pigment stain (CPS + CFC3 binder + S90) under a UV-curing acrylate build: 100 %-solids UV filler + 2 UV roller sealer coats; topcoat either a 100 %-solids UV roller lacquer (matt) or a solvent-containing UV curtain lacquer (gloss). All UV materials are 1K — no hardener, no pot life.

UV finishing of flat anegre-veneered panels

Substrate
Flat furniture panels veneered with anegre (a pale, even-grained African hardwood), pigment-stained
Result
Stained, closed-pore anegre: variant (a) thin matt topcoat (~30 gloss, natural-wood look); variant (b) thick high-gloss lacquer (~100 gloss) that can be polished.
  1. 01

    Sand the veneer

    Abrasive: P150, P180, P220

Abrasive belt, P150 → P180 → P220 in sequence. Anegre veneer is thin — don't sand through to the glue line; blow off/brush the dust after P220.

One even wet pass. Slow S90 gives the pigment time to settle into the pores without lap marks on big panels. CFC3 stops the following UV filler from lifting the stain.

  3. 03

    Dry the stain

Drying: [object Object] °C, 5 min

The solvent must be gone before the rollers, or the UV filler will smear the stain. Allow longer in a cold shop.

  4. 04

    Roll on UV filler

    VTS20011 100 %

    Consumption
    30–35official

UV filler-primer, 100 % solids (catalog): fills anegre's pores and bonds to the stained veneer.

  5. 05

    UV cure (gel)

Drying: ≈ seconds under the lamps (conveyor 10 m/min)

Single-lamp gel cure: the film sets but stays reactive enough to bond the next UV coat without sanding.

  6. 06

    Roll on sealer, coat 1

    VTS20029 100 %

    Consumption

Apply straight after the filler's gel cure — no sanding in between.

  7. 07

    UV cure (gel)

Drying: ≈ seconds under the lamps (conveyor 10 m/min)

Single-lamp gel cure: the film sets but stays reactive enough to bond the next UV coat without sanding.

  8. 08

    Roll on sealer, coat 2

    VTS20029 100 %

    Consumption
    20–25official

The second sealer coat builds film for sanding.

  9. 09

    UV cure (full)

Drying: ≈ seconds under the lamps (conveyor 10 m/min)

Full cure under three lamps: once the panel cools it can be sanded, stacked or packed.

  10. 10

    Sand the sealer

    Abrasive: P240, P280, P320

Abrasive belt P240 → P280 → P320 once fully cured and cooled. Don't cut through to the stain (watch the panel edges) — you can't patch it later. De-dust.

    Matt finish: roll on topcoat

    VTL20030 100 %

    Consumption
    8–12official

A thin 8–12 g/m² coat gives an even matt, natural-wood look; most of the film build comes from the sealer.

  12. 12a

    UV cure (full)

Drying: ≈ seconds under the lamps (conveyor 10 m/min)

Final cure under three lamps. Stack/pack once the panels have cooled.

  13. 11b

    Gloss finish: curtain-coat the lacquer

The lacquer contains solvent (64 % solids per catalog), so it must be flashed off before the lamps (step 12b). Dust is the main enemy of gloss: clean zone, de-dust after P320.

    Covers roughly 4.17 m² at 120 g/m².

Pot life of the mix: not applicable (1K); keep shielded from UV/daylight, top up thinner to hold viscosity.

  14. 12b-1

    Pre-dry (flash-off)

Drying: [object Object] °C, 5 min

5 min at 30–35 °C drives out the solvent while the TL03/05 actinic tubes lightly pre-gel the surface. Trap solvent under the UV lamps and you get pinholes, bubbles and lost gloss.

  15. 12b-2

    UV cure (full)

Drying: ≈ seconds under the lamps (conveyor 10 m/min)

Final cure under three lamps. Per the catalog VTL30100 can be polished — polish after cooling, safer after 24 h.
