PTS20

PTS20 universal clear PU sanding sealer

Two-pack clear polyurethane sanding sealer. Good clarity and build, fast to sanding (2 h) while staying fairly flexible with decent solids, and wets out micro-pores well (catalog). Fast drying, high solids, sands easily (official site). For open- and close-grained species, solid wood, veneer, plywood, MDF and HDF (dealer).

  • clear interior furniture and joinery finishing
  • sealer under PU lacquers (PTL20 in the schedule)
  • raised-panel doors per the Technocolor schedule (2 sealer coats)
  • over dye/stain (schedule: CTU + CFS1)
  • solid wood, veneer, plywood, MDF, HDF

    always; either PC20 or PC25

Fixed ratio, mix on scales. On the catalog chart PC25 yellows slightly less than PC20, so prefer PC25 on pale timber.

    % by weight: 20–30 %official% by volume: 20–30 %official

always, to working viscosity; dealer allows 'another universal thinner'

S50 is the medium-evaporation thinner for PU and acrylic primers (catalog). Technocolor doesn't list S80 for PTS20; in heat (above ~25 °C) the owner's practice is to swap some S50 for slow S80 — workshop advice, not Technocolor's.

  • PC25Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %schedule

'Raised-panel doors (PU)' schedule, steps 5 and 9

The schedule says 'C25'; this reads as PC25, the only '25' hardener listed for PTS20.

    same door schedule: PTS20 100 / C25 50 / S50 20, 150 g/m²

Officially spray only, 150 g/m² (dealer: 150 ml/m²). If all you have is a 1.4–1.5 mm gun, thin to the top of the range (30 % S50) and lay it in two light cross passes; you'll get a bit less build.

Don'ts
  • don't use the mix past 4 h (dealer: 3–4 h pot life)
  • don't eyeball the hardener — exactly 50 % of base by weight
  • don't sand before 2 h at 20 °C — the paper will clog
  • don't topcoat without sanding
  • don't lay more than ~150 g/m² per coat

Storage

Safety: Solvent-borne 2K PU with an aromatic isocyanate hardener: spray in an extracted booth, wear a carbon respirator (A2/P2 or air-fed), nitrile gloves and eye protection; keep away from ignition sources. (General 2K PU rules; no SDS found.)
