PC25

Universal hardener for PU coatings

Aromatic hardener with fairly high reactivity and fast drying. The universal part B for Technocolor 2K PU primers and matt PU lacquers: on the catalog chart it sits at the extreme 'fast/hard' end; for yellowing resistance it beats PC72/PC10/PC20/PC90 but is below PC60 and the aliphatic AC40/AC41.

  • Part B for PU primers: PTS20, PTS20 B, PTS50, PTS50 A, PTS52, PTS60, PTS01 (catalog, dealer), PPS40091 (dealer), PPS20 (alternative)
  • Part B for matt PU lacquers and the converter: PTL20 (M/SM/DM/UM), PTL1, PTL50
  • Wherever you want faster drying than with PC20 (dealer notes on PPS20/PTL20) and a harder film (catalog chart)

Matt 20-gloss PU converter; PC25 listed first (PC25/PC20/PC60).

For whites and pale tints use PC60 instead — PC25 is aromatic and yellows.

Universal PU lacquer 20/30 gloss; PC25 listed first (PC25/PC20/PC60).

  • PTL20 DM / PTL20 UMbase (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %dealer% by volume: 50 %dealer

    Dead-matt/ultra-matt PTL20 grades per dealer recipe (PC20/PC25).

  • PTS20base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here

    Universal clear PU primer (PC20/PC25).

  • PTS20 Bbase (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 50 %official

Universal clear PU primer, grade B — PC25 is the only hardener listed.

  • PTS50base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 50 %official

Thixotropic clear PU primer (PC25/PC20), electrostatic too.

  • PTS50 Abase (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %catalog

    High-solids thixotropic primer (catalog: PC20, PC25 — 50 %).

The dealer lists only PC20 for PTS50 A (50 wt / 50 vol, S50 30/35); PC25 appears only in the catalog. No volume figure published for PC25.

  • PTS52base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 55 %official

    Thixotropic high-solids PU primer (PC20/PC25): 50 % by weight = 55 % by volume.

  • PTS60base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 60 %official

High-hardness clear PU primer. Official page: PC25 / PC20; catalog and dealer list PC25 only.

    Sources disagree: official page 50 % wt / 60 % vol; catalog '60 %'; dealer 60/60. Most likely 50 wt = 60 vol (cf. PTS52 50 wt = 55 vol) and the catalog's '60' is the volume figure. Weigh it at 50 %.

  • PTS60base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 60 %dealer% by volume: 60 %dealer

    Dealer recipe (60/60) and catalog ('PC25 60 %').

Conflicts with the official page (50 wt) — see the entry above.

  • PTL50 M / PTL50 SM / PTL50 SG / PTL50 Gbase (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %dealer% by volume: 50 %dealer

Thixotropic PU lacquer: official site and catalog list PC20 only (50/50); dealer lists "PC20 / PC25" 50/50 for M/SM/SG/G.

  • PTL50 UM / PTL50090base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %dealer% by volume: 50 %dealer

Dealer lists PC25 as the only hardener for these grades.

  • PPS40091base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 30 %dealer% by volume: 40 %dealer

Black PU primer for MDF — dealer recipe.

    Official site/catalog give PC20 25 % for PPS40091; dealer gives PC25 30 % wt / 40 % vol.

  • PTS01base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %catalog% by volume: 50 %dealer

    Fire-retardant clear PU primer (catalog: PC20, PC25 — 50 %; dealer: PC25 50 wt / 50 vol, S50 20–30 wt / 25–35 vol).

  • PPS20base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %recommended

Faster drying in place of PC20 (cold shop, quick turn to sanding).

  • PTS20base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %schedule

    'Raised-panel doors (PU)' schedule, steps 5, 9: 150 g/m², dry 1.5 h at 30–35 °C.

  • PTL20base (component A) — PC25 is the hardener here
    % by weight: 50 %schedule

    'Raised-panel doors (PU)' schedule, step 13: 150 g/m², dry 1.5 h at 30–35 °C.

    The schedule prints 'PTL20 : 20%' — almost certainly a typo for 100 % (no recipe runs 50 % hardener on 20 parts base). Read it as 100 : 50 : 30.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Never applied on its own — only as part of the mixed coating. Take tip, pressure and viscosity from the host product (PTS/PTL): clear PU primers at 20–30 % S50 — HVLP 1.7–1.9 mm; PTL20 lacquers — 1.4–1.6 mm; airmix for primers — 0.011–0.013" tip (0.28–0.33 mm) at 80–120 bar fluid.

Process and compatibility

Temperature and humidity
Work at 18–25 °C and RH below ~70 %; in a cold shop PC25 is the better choice over PC20 (cures faster).recommended
Don'ts
  • Don't leave the can open — isocyanate reacts with air moisture, goes cloudy and thickens
  • Don't use hardener that has gone cloudy or thick
  • Don't use it under white or pale enamels/tints — it yellows (use PC60/AC40)
  • Don't thin with anything containing water or alcohol
  • Never pour leftover mix back into the can
