PTL01

PTL01 Fire-retardant polyurethane lacquer, 20 gloss

Two-pack fire-retardant polyurethane topcoat, 20 gloss (satin-matt). When heated, the fire-retardant components decompose and give off non-combustible gas that blocks oxygen and slows fire spread. Fast drying (including to packing), excellent flow-out, pleasant soft feel. Used as the topcoat over clear fire-retardant primer PTS01; together they form a Group II fire-protection system to GOST R 53292-2009 (cl. 6.1). Interior use only.

  • Protecting and improving fire resistance of timber structures indoors
  • Clear topcoat in the PTS01 + PTL01 fire-retardant system (Group II, GOST R 53292-2009)
  • Wall panelling, cladding, doors and furniture in public interiors where certified fire protection is required

Fixed ratio — do not tweak it; the fire rating is certified on this formulation.

  • PC20Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %catalog% by volume: 50 %recommended

Catalogue and leaflet list PC20 as the hardener; dealer lists it as an alternative: more flexible film, slower drying

Sources disagree: catalogue/leaflet say PC20, dealer says PC25 (PC20 as alternative). Both at 50 %.

  • PC60Hardener

When non-yellowing matters (pale timber, whitewashed tones)

Swap sourced from the dealer; percentage taken by analogy with PC25.

    Normal conditions, verticals

Catalogue and leaflet give the same 20–30 % (basis not stated). Dealer: 20–30 % both by weight and by volume. 'default 25' is the mid-point (derived).

  • S70 / S80Thinner
    % by weight: 20–30 (typ. 25) %recommended% by volume: 20–30 (typ. 25) %recommended

Hot weather — for better flow-out (dealer); in practice above ~25 °C (workshop notes)

S80 is slow: more dust pick-up and sag risk on verticals. Does not change cure time.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Consumption

Coats
1 coat PTL01 over PTS01 at 150 g/m² each (a second PTL01 coat only if build is needed)recommended
Recoat
Over PTS01: after it has dried ≥ 4 h and been sanded (overnight is safer); PTL01 over PTL01: 4–8 h after sanding, or within 24 h without full cure lock-outrecommended
Sanding between coats
Sand PTS01 with P320–P400 before PTL01; denib PTL01 between coats with P400–P600. Don't polish the 20-gloss final coat.recommended

Manufacturer lists spraying only (dealer, catalogue) — no brush/roller. Lay it on at the full 150 g/m²: under-building the film costs you the fire rating.

Conventional spray

Consumption
150 g/m²dealer

Methods page: transfer efficiency up to ~40 %, so gun usage will be well above the 150 g/m² that lands on the part.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Consumption
150 g/m²dealer

Methods page: airmix fluid pressure 'up to 20 bar', atomising air 1–2 bar.

Airless

Consumption
150 g/m²dealer

Methods page: airless up to 200 bar, transfer up to 90 %, ideal for priming large flats. For the topcoat airmix usually gives a cleaner finish with less sag/orange peel.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Clean dry timber (8–12 % MC), sanded P150–P180, dust removed. No oils, waxes or silicone.recommended

Don'ts
  • Don't use outdoors — interior-only material (dealer, catalogue)
  • Don't change the 50 % hardener ratio — the fire rating is certified on the formulation
  • Don't skimp on film: under 150 g/m² the system may not reach Group II
  • Don't use the mix past its 4 h pot life
  • Don't polish the 20-gloss finish — you'll get shiny patches

Safety: Flammable solvent-borne material (the wet lacquer burns — the fire rating applies to the cured film only); contains isocyanates once mixed. Spray in a booth, wear an A2P2 organic-vapour respirator (or air-fed), nitrile gloves and eye protection. Keep away from flames and sparks.
