PolyurethanePrimer

PTS52

PTS52 Thixotropic high-solids PU primer (sealer)

Two-pack polyurethane thixotropic primer/sealer with high solids (52 ± 1 % in part A). Dries fast, holds on verticals without sagging and sands easily. Built for spraying and electrostatic application on assembled pieces - chairs, cots, vertical surfaces in solid wood and MDF. Cured with PC20 or PC25 (50 % by weight), thinned with S50 or S70 (20-25 % by weight). Interior use.

  • vertical surfaces
  • children's cots
  • chairs in various wood species
  • assembled furniture
  • solid wood and MDF, interior only
  • tables (dealer tag)

  • PC20Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 55 %official

Default. 100 base + 50 PC20 by weight; mix on scales.

    Official 50 % w/w / 55 % v/v. Dealer lists 50 / 50 (volume column looks copied from weight). Density check supports 55 % by volume. Mix by weight.

  • PC25Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 55 %official

When you want faster drying/hardness build (cold shop, quick turnaround to sanding) or slightly less yellowing.

Same ratio as PC20 (official 'PC20/PC25 50 %'). PC25 is the 'universal' aromatic hardener (dealer), the fastest/hardest end of the catalog chart; expect pot life a bit under 4 h.

  • S50Thinner
    % by weight: 20–25 %official% by volume: 25–30 %official

Default thinner: medium evaporation, verticals, chairs, electrostatic work at 18-25 °C.

Dealer: 20-25 % by weight and by volume (volume likely copied). Catalog: S50 = medium evaporation, good cutting power, for PU and acrylic primers. Doesn't change cure time.

  • S70Thinner
    % by weight: 20–25 %official% by volume: 25–30 %official

Slow: hot shop (above ~25 °C), large flat panels, force-drying - gives the primer time to level and avoids dry spray.

Catalog: S70 = slow evaporation, medium cutting power. More flow time, but more dust pick-up and sag risk on verticals. Doesn't change cure time.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Thixotropic primer levels poorly on flats: lay table tops a bit wetter and go to 25 % thinner (S70 when hot) if you get orange peel. Keep 20 % on verticals and chairs.

Methods page: electrostatic is the most economical method and is used mostly on chairs, table legs and cots - exactly PTS52's market. Ground the workpiece; wood below ~8-10 % MC conducts poorly - use a conductive primer if needed.

Don'ts
  • Don't eyeball by volume - official and dealer volume figures disagree; mix on scales.
  • Don't thin past 25 %: you lose the thixotropy and it will sag on verticals.
  • Don't use the mix beyond 4 h at 20 °C - less with PC25 or in the heat.
  • Don't leave the hardener can open - PC20/PC25 react with moisture.
  • Don't lay more than ~150 g/m² per pass: pinholes in the pores and shrink-back.
  • Don't sand while the paper still gums up.
  • Not for exterior use.
