CPS24
CPS24 Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, cherry
Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, ready colour 'cherry'. High hiding power: evens out colour variation and masks defects, gives a calm natural tone; lightfast. Let down with S10/S12/S30/S90 at 200-1000 % (2-10 parts thinner per part stain). With binder it can be wiped on to highlight the pores of open-grain wood. Intermixes with the other CPS stains and solvent-borne stains.
- Staining furniture in any wood species
- Faux-cherry on pale woods (beech, birch, alder)
- Evening out colour variation in veneer and solid wood
- Pore highlighting on oak/ash (wipe-on with binder)

Mixing matrix
- % by weight: 200–1000 %dealer% by volume: 200–1000 %dealer
S10 — fast, for fine-pore wood (beech, birch, maple, alder); S12 — medium, for medium-pore wood; S30 — fast general-purpose (catalog lists it for PU/acrylic/PE/UV; the dealer allows it for CPS24); S90 — slow, for open-grain wood (oak, ash) and big panels, gives more working time for wiping.
Main recipe for CPS24: 2-10 parts thinner to 1 part stain. More thinner = lighter, more transparent tone; dial it in on a sample board. The dealer labels them 'thinner / NC thinner / slow stain thinner'.
- % by weight: 500–1000 %catalog
S10 — fast, for fine-pore wood; S12 — medium evaporation, for medium-pore wood; S90 — slow evaporation, for open-pore wood (catalog thinner table).
2025/26 catalog figure for the whole CPS series (written for the concentrates). The 2022 catalog gave 500-2000 % for the series. For the CPS24 ready colour the dealer allows less thinning — from 200 %.
- CFS1Additive% by weight: 20–40 %dealer% by volume: 20–40 %dealer
Solvent binder — for wipe-on/pore-highlight work and to lock the pigment down before priming.
Taken from the sibling ready colours CPS22/CPS23; CPS24's own page lists no binder — test on an offcut.
- % by weight: 0–400 %catalog
Binders for the CPS series per the 2022 catalog: for spraying / roller / wiping.
- CFC3Additive% by weight: 200 %schedule
Roller-coating flat (anegre veneer) panels under a UV system, 60-80 g/m².
CFC3 is its own code from the UV schedule (stain binder for UV lines); no product page and not sold by the dealer. The schedule gives bare '%', not saying weight or volume.
- S90Thinner% by weight: 200 %schedule
UV schedule, roller application.
The schedule gives bare '%', not saying weight or volume.
- % by weight: intermixable; ratio set on a sample %catalog
Adjusting the cherry shade: stains in the series intermix with each other and with other solvent-borne stains (CTU). E.g. a touch of CPS9 (black) for a deeper, darker cherry, CPS1 (yellow) to warm it up.

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder).

More overspray than HVLP; hold the gun 20-25 cm off and spray in a well-extracted booth.
Cloth or pad
Spray, let it sit 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag to take off the excess (Technocolor's method definition). Wiping evens the tone and packs pigment into the pores — on oak/ash the pores go darker and the figure pops. Add CFS1 binder for a stronger effect and better pigment lock-down.
Roller coater (UV)
Flat parts on a roller-coater line only. In the official UV schedule the stain flashes 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Sand P150 → P180 → P220, de-dust. On cherry/alder/birch (blotch-prone) don't go finer than P220 or the stain takes lighter and patchier.schedule
- Sanding
- Never sand the stain itself. Sand only the first primer coat (P280-P320); if you cut through to the stain, touch it up.recommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 15-25 °C, RH ≤ 75 %recommended
