CPS8 Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, blue (concentrate)

Blue solvent-borne pigment wood stain, a base concentrate of the CPS series. High hiding power, evens out colour variation and masks defects, levels well, lightfast. Let down 5-20x with S10/S12/S90; with CFS1 binder it can be wiped on to highlight the pores of open-grain wood. Intermixes with other CPS and solvent-borne stains for custom shades.

  • Staining furniture in any wood species
  • Decorative blue tones on solid wood and veneer
  • Pore highlighting on oak/ash (wipe-on with CFS1 binder)
  • Tinting brown CPS/CTU stains toward cool, grey shades

The 2025/26 catalog gives 500-1000 % for the CPS series (dealer and 2022 catalog: 500-2000 %). The catalog does not say whether by weight or by volume.

Solvent binder (spray grade) — for wipe-on/pore-highlight work and to lock the pigment in.

  • CFS1 / CFS3 / CFS4Additive
    % by weight: 0–400 %catalog

The 2022 catalog lists CFS1, CFS3, CFS4 as CPS binders at 0-400 % without saying how they differ. The dealer calls CFS1 "solvent binder for spraying"; CFS3/CFS4 are not described anywhere.

  • CFC3Additive
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

UV schedule for flat anegre-veneer panels: stain applied at 60-80 g/m², method not stated in the schedule; flash 5 min at 20-25 °C.

The schedule names the CPS series, not a colour. CFC3 appears nowhere else (no catalog, no dealer listing) — probably a misprint for CFS3 (a CPS binder in the 2022 catalog); confirm with Technocolor.

  • S90Thinner
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

For a custom shade; CPS8 is the main 'cooling' component.

Record ratios by weight; blue is very strong — add drop by drop and test on an offcut.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder). CPS8 is a concentrate: never spray it neat — always let down (500-2000 %) or use it to tint other CPS stains.

Spray only, no wiping: one even wet coat, no puddling in the pores. Stir well — the pigment settles.

Cloth or pad

Wiping with a sponge or soft rag removes the excess after spraying (Technocolor's method definition). For a pore-highlight effect on oak/ash use CFS1 binder.

Roller coater (UV)

Flat parts on a roller-coater only (official 10-20 g/m²). Separately: the official UV anegre-veneer schedule applies CPS 100 / CFC3 200 / S90 200 at 60-80 g/m² (the schedule does not state the method; that rate matches spraying, not rollers) and flashes it 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.
