CPS51 Solvent-borne pigment stain, classic walnut

Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, ready colour 'classic walnut'. Evens out colour variation and hides wood defects, levels well, good lightfastness. Gives a calm natural walnut tone on pale species; with CFS1 binder it can be sprayed and wiped to pick out the pores of oak and ash. Intermixes with other CPS colours and solvent-borne stains for custom shades.

  • Staining furniture in any wood species
  • Veneered panels and solid wood
  • Evening out colour variation, walnut look on pale species (birch, beech, alder, pine)
  • Pore highlighting on oak/ash (spray + wipe with CFS1 binder)

2025/26 catalog figure for the whole CPS series (2022 catalog and official CPS9/CPS10 cards: 500-2000 %). For ready colours the dealer gives less: CPS22/CPS23/CPS24 200-1000 % (S31 or S30 also listed there), CPS021/CPS037 0-100 %. No CPS51-specific figure — dial it in on a sample board by colour depth and record by weight.

Figure for the CPS9/CPS10 concentrates; for the ready colour CPS51 treat it as an upper bound — it will wash the colour out.

  • CFS1Additive
    % by weight: 0–400 %official% by volume: 0–400 %official

Solvent binder for spraying, roller and wiping: locks the pigment in and lets you wipe.

Can be sprayed without binder; for wipe-on work the binder is a must. For the ready colour CPS22 the dealer gives 20-40 %.

  • CFS1Additive

Wiping/roller work with a ready colour.

  • CFS1 / CFS3 / CFS4Additive
    % by weight: 0–400 %catalog

The 2022 catalog lists binders CFS1, CFS3, CFS4 (0-400 %) without saying which is for what. The dealer names CFS1 'solvent binder for spraying / roller / wiping', i.e. CFS1 covers all three; the role of CFS3/CFS4 is not stated.

  • CFC3Additive
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

Roller-coating flat veneered panels under a UV system, 60-80 g/m².

Code CFC3 appears nowhere else — possibly a typo for CFS1/CFS3 (binder). Confirm with Technocolor.

For a custom shade: mixes with other CPS colours (CPS22 light walnut to lighten, CPS23 antique walnut to darken, CPS9 to deepen) and solvent-borne stains.

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder).

Cloth or pad

Wiping with a sponge or soft rag removes the excess after spraying (Technocolor's method definition). For a pore-highlight effect on oak/ash use CFS1 binder.

Roller coater (UV)

Flat parts on a roller-coater line only. In the official UV schedule the stain flashes 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.
