CPS52
CPS52 Solvent-borne pigment stain, chestnut
Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, ready colour 'chestnut' — a warm mid-to-dark brown. Evens out colour variation and hides wood defects, levels well, good lightfastness. The CPS51-CPS62 range are wiping stains: spray and wipe back with a sponge or rag, spray only, or roller-coat. Officially the range is also listed for exterior wood (decks, gazebos, cladding, fences) ; the dealer lists CPS60-CPS62 as "interior and exterior". Outdoors always topcoat it (our recommendation, not a manufacturer statement).
- Staining furniture in any wood species
- Evening out colour variation, chestnut tone on pale species (birch, beech, alder, pine)
- Pore highlighting on oak/ash (spray + wipe)
- Exterior timber under a protective clear/lazure: decks, verandas, gazebos, garden furniture, boardwalks, cladding, fences (series listing)

Mixing matrix
- % by weight: 500–1000 %catalog
2025/26 catalog figure for the CPS series. S10 fast, fine-pore wood (beech, birch, maple, alder); S12 medium, medium-pore wood; S90 slow, open-grain wood (oak, ash) and big panels, gives time to wipe.
The catalog doesn't say whether 500-1000 % applies to the CPS51-62 ready colours or only the concentrates. On a ready 'chestnut' that much thinner gives a very pale tone — start low and dial it in on a sample board. The 2022 catalog gave 500-2000 % for the CPS series. No by-volume figure in either catalog.
Straight from the can, or slight lightening / longer wiping time. S10 fine-pore, S12 medium-pore, S90 open grain and large panels.
Figure borrowed from analogue CPS037, not published for CPS52 — test on an offcut of the same species.
- % by weight: 0–400 %catalog
Solvent binder for spray-and-wipe — locks the pigment in, gives the pore-highlight effect.
2025/26 catalog: 'with the special binder it can be applied by wiping'. Not listed specifically for CPS51-62, which are sold as wiping stains anyway. For comparison: the dealer page of CPS22 (a CPS ready colour) gives CFS1 20-40 % by weight and by volume.
- CFC3Additive% by weight: 200 %schedule
Roller-coating flat veneered panels under a UV system, 60-80 g/m².
Schedule names the CPS series, not a colour code. CFC3 appears nowhere else — probably a roller binder; confirm with Technocolor.
- S90Thinner% by weight: 200 %schedule
UV schedule, roller coater.
- % by weight: intermixable, no ratio published %catalog
Custom shades (e.g. chestnut + wenge CPS57 for darker, + cherry CPS55 for redder).

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder).
Cloth or pad
Wiping with a sponge or soft rag removes the excess after spraying (Technocolor's method definition). For a pore-highlight effect on oak/ash use CFS1 binder.
Roller coater (UV)
Flat parts on a roller-coater line only. In the official UV schedule the stain flashes 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.
Brush
On exterior structures (fences, decks) it can be brushed on and wiped back with a rag.
