CPS55 Solvent-borne pigment wiping stain, cherry

Solvent-borne pigment wiping stain, ready colour 'cherry' (CPS51-CPS62 series). Evens out colour variation and hides defects, levels well, lightfast. Spray (with or without wiping back) or roller-coat. The official site files the series under exterior wood, the dealer under furniture stains; outdoors it must be overcoated with a weather-resistant finish.

  • Staining furniture in any wood species
  • Decks, verandas, gazebos, garden furniture, boardwalks, cladding, fences, landscape features — under a protective topcoat (official, series)
  • Faux cherry on pale woods (beech, birch, alder, pine)
  • Pore highlighting on oak/ash by wiping

Not a manufacturer recommendation — dial it in on an offcut and record the ratio by weight.

2025/26 catalog figure for the CPS series as a whole (it does not split concentrates from ready colours). Treat it as the upper bound for the CPS55 ready colour; test first or the shade may wash out.

  • CFS1binder
    % by weight: 0–400 %official% by volume: 0–400 %official

Binder for wiping / pore-highlight effect (catalog: "with the special binder it can be wiped").

Not published for CPS55; the dealer gives CFS1 20-40 % on ready colour CPS22.

  • CFS1binder
    % by weight: 20–40 %dealer% by volume: 20–40 %dealer

CPS22 ready colour (light walnut) — closest published analogue for ready colours.

    Analogy, not confirmed for CPS55.

  • CFC3Additive
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

Roller-coating flat (anegre veneer) panels under a UV system, 60-80 g/m². The schedule names the CPS series generically.

CFC3 appears nowhere else — probably a roller binder. Confirm with Technocolor.

  • S90Thinner
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

    UV schedule, roller application.

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder).

More overspray than HVLP; hold the gun 20-25 cm off and spray in a well-extracted booth.

Cloth or pad

Wiping with a sponge or soft rag removes the excess after spraying (Technocolor's method definition). For a pore-highlight effect on oak/ash use CFS1 binder.

Roller coater (UV)

Flat parts on a roller-coater line only (10-20 g/m² per dealer). The official UV anegre schedule names the CPS series generically (CPS 100 / CFC3 200 / S90 200, 60-80 g/m², 5 min at 20-25 °C) — not confirmed for CPS55.

On exterior structures (fences, decks) it can be brushed on and wiped back with a rag.
