CLT2

CLT2 Kromolux dye concentrate, orange

Concentrated transparent wood dye (stain). Gives an even, uniform colour and lets you go dark while keeping the wood see-through. Cuts with water or with solvent, and can be used with or without a binder. All dyes in the series intermix in any ratio to hit the target shade.

  • Colouring all kinds of wood species (veneer and solid)
  • Evening out colour variation, enriching or changing the wood colour
  • Base shade for blending with other CLT dyes

Mixing matrix

  • S10Thinner
    % by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official

Fast thinner — staining fine-pored woods (e.g. beech, birch, maple, alder).

SG 0.790 ± 0.01; also used to flush equipment (t-color.ru S10 page). 'Fine-pored wood' use from catalogue p.19; species examples are derived. Dealer labels S10 'thinner for polyester'.

  • S12Thinner
    % by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official

Medium evaporation — staining medium-pored woods (e.g. cherry, walnut).

Nitro thinner, suitable for cutting dyes (t-color.ru S12 page). Wood-type use from catalogue p.19; species examples are derived. S12 is the thinner used in the official CTU dye schedules.

  • S90Thinner
    % by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official

Slow — staining coarse-pored woods (e.g. oak, ash); also big panels or a hot shop: gives the stain time to level out without blotches or lap marks.

Coarse-pored wood and slow evaporation from catalogue p.19 and dealer S90 page; species examples and 'big panels / heat' are derived.

  • LZC97Thinner
    % by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official

Listed on the official page; no product description for LZC97 found.

Missing from the dealer's mixing table.

  • WATER (deionised)Thinner
    % by weight: 500–1000 %official% by volume: 500–1000 %official

Water-cut stain: penetrates deeper and pops the grain more; where you want minimal solvent.

Deionised (distilled) water only — tap water makes the dye flocculate and hurts colour stability in the can. Raise the grain with water, dry and denib before a water stain.

  • CFS1Additive
    % by weight: 0–200 %official% by volume: 0–200 %official

Binder for the solvent-cut stain (S10/S12/S90): locks the dye down so the next primer coat drags/bleeds it less.

Solvent/water assignment of CFS1/CFH1 is inferred: the dealer labels them 'solvent / water' in the opposite order to the codes, but the official schedules pair CFS1 with S12 and CFH1 with water, and Technocolor codes use S = solvent, H = water.

  • CFH1Additive
    % by weight: 0–200 %official% by volume: 0–200 %official

    Binder for the water-cut stain.

  • CFS1 / S12Additive

    Analogue: 'Raised-panel doors (PU)' schedule — written for CTU, not CLT2; 80–100 g/m², 5 min at 20–25 °C, then PTS20 PU primer.

  • CFS1 / S12Additive

Analogue: 'Mouldings and frames (UV)' schedule — written for CTU; 80 g/m², 5 min at 25–30 °C, then VTS40041 UV primer.

  • CFH1 / WATERAdditive

    Analogue: water schedule (CTH) — 400 % CFH1 exceeds the 0–200 % official limit for CLT2; stay at ≤200 % with CLT2.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Wood moisture 8–14 %. Final sand P150–P220 on flats (profiles with K60–K80 pads). Coarser grit = darker stain, finer = lighter, so sand every part of a job the same. For a water stain, raise the grain with water first, dry and denib.source
Goes over
bare sanded wood (veneer, solid)
Sanding
Never sand the stain coat; sand only the primer (P240–P320 flat, K120 profile)schedule
Temperature and humidity
Wood moisture 8–14 %, shop RH 40–75 % (glossary). Stain drying in the analogous official schedules: 20–25 °C (PU schedules) or 25–30 °C (UV mouldings schedule).source
Don'ts
  • Don't cut with tap water — deionised only.
  • Don't flood it on — 80–100 g/m², or it blotches.
  • Don't go above 200 % binder.
  • Don't prime over stain that isn't fully dry, especially water-cut.
  • Don't sand the stain coat.
