CLT16
CLT16 Kromolux dye concentrate, tundra walnut
Kromolux (MILESI) binder-free concentrated transparent dye stain, 'tundra walnut'. Very clear and very even; at higher strength it goes dark without losing transparency. Cut with deionised water or solvent, with or without binder. Mixes with any other Kromolux dye in any ratio. There is no official t-color.ru page for it.
- Colouring all kinds of wood, veneer or solid
- Furniture, mouldings, frames, general joinery, by spray
- Dark walnut tones that stay transparent
- Shade matching mixed with other Kromolux dyes

Mixing matrix
- S10Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %recommended% by volume: 500–1000 %recommended
Fast thinner: stain on fine-pored timber (beech, birch, maple, alder, cherry), or a cool shop.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- S12Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %recommended% by volume: 500–1000 %recommended
Medium evaporation: stain on medium-pored timber. The sensible default.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- S90Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %recommended% by volume: 500–1000 %recommended
Slow: stain on open-pored timber (oak, ash, walnut), big panels or hot weather. Fewer stripes and blotches.
500–1000 % means 5 to 10 parts thinner to 1 part concentrate. More thinner = lighter, more transparent shade.
- WATERThinner% by weight: 500–1000 %recommended% by volume: 500–1000 %recommended
Water dilution, when you want a solvent-free stain. Deionised water only (stated on the CLT16 page itself).
Dealer (CLT16): use deionised water only, or the dye can flocculate and lose colour stability in the can. Water raises the grain, so wet, dry and sand the wood before staining. Allow up to 8 h to dry (TDS).
- LZC97Thinner% by weight: 500–1000 %recommended% by volume: 500–1000 %recommended
Listed as an approved thinner on official pages of the other Kromolux dyes and in the series TDS.
LZC97's own properties are unpublished; Milesi uses it as a bridging additive in both recipes below.
- % by weight: 1 part CLT : 0.5 part LZC97 : 9.5 parts LZC1000 % per 100 parts dyedatasheet
Milesi's suggested solvent dilution (Milesi original thinners).
LZC1000 isn't in the Technocolor range; S10/S12 do the same job.
- LZC97 / WATERThinner% by weight: 1 part CLT : 1 part LZC97 : 14 parts water % per 100 parts dyedatasheet
Milesi's suggested water dilution.
Deionised water only.
- % by weight: listed as approved thinners, no ratio given %datasheet
Other thinners the series TDS approves.
No ratio given; work to the general 500–800 % for hand spraying (TDS).
- CFH1Additive% by weight: 0–200 %recommended% by volume: 0–200 %recommended
Spray binder for the water-borne system: when the concentrate is cut with deionised water.
It's the water-borne binder: the official finishing schedule pairs CFH1 with water-borne CTH and water (CFH1 400 %, water 1000 %). The dealer table lists the codes as 'CFH1 / CFS1' and the descriptions as 'solvent / water', in the wrong order. Correct is CFS1 = solvent, CFH1 = water.
- CFS1Additive% by weight: 0–200 %recommended% by volume: 0–200 %recommended
Spray binder for the solvent-borne system: when the concentrate is cut with S10/S12/S90.
0 % = straight dye. The binder locks the dye in, cuts bleed into the sealer and evens out absorption. It's the solvent-borne binder: the official finishing schedules pair CFS1 with solvent-borne CTU + S12 (CFS1 at 150–200 %), and white CLT10, which can't take water, lists only CFS1. The CLT16 page confirms the dye can be used with binder.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Sand solid wood or veneer to P150–P220 (open-pored P150–P180, fine-pored P180–P220) and de-dust. For water dilution, wet the wood first, let it dry and knock back the raised grain.recommended

- ATS20
- Sanding
- Don't sand the stain; the first denib goes on the first sealer coat.recommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 15–25 °C, RH 50–70 %; above ~25 °C use slow S90recommended
- Don'ts
- Don't cut it with tap water; deionised only (dealer)
- Don't lay it on in one heavy coat; you get blotches and runs
- Don't seal before the solvent or water has fully gone
- Don't flood the first sealer coat; it lifts and smears the dye

Safety: (Generic advice, not from an SDS.) Once cut with S10/S12/S90 it is highly flammable. Spray in an extracted booth, wear an A2-filter respirator and nitrile gloves, keep away from ignition sources. No SDS for CLT16 could be found.
