CPS040

CPS040 Solvent-borne pigment stain, light pine

Solvent-borne pigment wood stain, ready colour 'light pine'. Supplied near spraying strength — thinner is only used to adjust the depth of tone. Evens out colour variation and hides wood defects, levels well, good lightfastness. Gives a calm, light, warm pine tone; intermixes with other CPS colours and solvent-borne stains for custom shades.

  • Staining furniture in any wood species
  • Veneered panels and solid wood
  • Evening out colour variation on pale species (pine, spruce, birch, alder, beech) to a light pine tone
  • Masking blue stain, knots and finger-joint colour shifts on pine furniture board

Can be sprayed neat (0 %) for the full 'light pine' tone. Up to 1:1 with thinner for a lighter, more transparent tone that shows more grain. Dial it in on an offcut of the same wood and record by weight.

2025/26 catalog figure for the whole CPS series (written for the concentrates); the 2022 catalog gives 500-2000 % for the series. For CPS040 the dealer gives 0-100 % — go by that; 500-1000 % would leave only a faint tint.

  • CFS1 / CFS3 / CFS4Additive
    % by weight: 0–400 %catalog

Solvent binder. The 2022 catalog lists CFS1, CFS3, CFS4 (0-400 %) without saying which is for which method; the dealer's CPS22 page names the roles 'for spraying / for rollers / for wiping' — in that order probably CFS1 / CFS3 / CFS4 (CFS1 = spraying is confirmed on the dealer's CPS3 page). Needed when the stain is wiped (pore highlighting on oak/ash).

The dealer lists no binder for CPS040 — for plain spraying none is added.

  • CFC3Additive
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

Official UV schedule for flat veneered (anegre) panels, 60-80 g/m². The schedule does not state how the stain is applied.

CFC3 appears nowhere else — probably the roller binder (CFS3). Confirm with Technocolor.

  • S90Thinner
    % by weight: 200 %schedule

UV schedule, flat panels (application method not stated in the schedule).

  • CPSAdditive
% by weight: any ratio %catalog

For a custom shade: mixes with other CPS colours (e.g. CPS030 pine for a deeper/warmer tone, CPS10 white to lighten, CPS9 to darken) and solvent-borne stains (CTU).

    Record ratios by weight.

Stir thoroughly — the pigment settles. Keep shaking/stirring the cup while you work. Lay one even wet coat, no puddles; go lighter on end grain (it drinks more and goes darker). To wipe: spray, give it 1-3 min, then wipe along the grain with a sponge or lint-free rag, packing pigment into the pores (pore-highlight effect on open-grain wood — needs CFS1 binder).

Cloth or pad

The dealer lists only spraying for CPS040. Wiping is per series data: spray, wait 1-3 min, wipe off the excess with a soft rag/sponge along the grain. Add binder (CFS1/CFS3/CFS4) for pore highlighting.

Roller coater (UV)

Flat parts on a roller-coater line only; 10-20 g/m² is the 2025/26 catalog series figure — the dealer does not list rollers for CPS040. Rollers need binder (probably CFS3).

Uv schedule unspecified

In the official UV schedule the stain (CPS series, cut 1:4 with binder+S90) flashes 5 min at 20-25 °C before VTS20011 UV filler.
