AC41

AC41 hardener for 2K acrylic coatings

Aliphatic (non-yellowing) isocyanate hardener for Technocolor 2K acrylic primers, matt lacquers and converters. Alternative to AC40 in ATL20 M and the ATL90 lacquers, and per the catalog also in ATS20, APS20 and ATL1. On the catalog scale it yellows a touch more than AC40 but clearly less than any of the PU hardeners.

  • Part B for ATL90 acrylic lacquers (DM, UM, M, SM, SG, G) — 10–20 %
  • Part B for ATL20 M — 10–20 % (shop: 20 %)
  • Per catalog: ATS20 and APS20 acrylic primers — 20 %
  • Per catalog: ATL1 enamel converter — 10–20 %
  • Light and white finishes where non-yellowing matters

Characteristics

Solids
38 ± 1 %dealer
Hardener type
aliphatic isocyanate hardener for acrylicscatalog
Lightfastness
9th of 10 for non-yellowing: better than every PU hardener and AC200, a notch behind AC40catalog
Speed vs elasticity
right-hand side of the fast-hard → slow-elastic axis, just left of AC40catalog
Moisture sensitivity
isocyanate hardeners are sensitive to waterofficial
Pot life
5–6 h for the catalysed host mix at 20 °C (ATL90 all variants, ATL20 M, ATS20: 6 h; APS20: 5 h)dealer
Drying · Conditions
20 °C
Drying · Touch-dry
20 min (host ATL90/ATL20)dealer
Drying · Sand or stack
1 h to sanding (host ATL90 UM/M/SM/SG)dealer
Drying · Full cure
6 h (ATL90), 8 h (ATL20 M)dealer
Density
≈1.0–1.1 g/cm³recommended

Application

HVLP

Nozzle
unchanged — set by the host: 1.3–1.5 mm for ATL90/ATL20 lacquers (27–29 % solids, 40–45 s VZ-4), 1.5–1.7 mm for ATS20; 1.7–1.9 mm for APS20 (57–60 % solids)recommended
Pressure · air
per host; e.g. 2.0–2.2 bar inlet with trigger pulled, ≤0.7 bar at the cap for the thin clear acrylicsrecommended
Spray viscosity
catalysed + thinned host at ~18–22 s DIN4/VZ-4, 20 °Crecommended

Hardener into part A first, stir, then thinner. Let it sit 5–10 min, strain. Mix only what you'll spray inside the pot life (5–6 h); never pour leftovers back into the can.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Nozzle
per host: 0.23–0.28 mm (09–11 thou) tips for the clear acrylic lacquers, 0.28–0.33 mm (11–13 thou) for APS20; fluid 40–80 bar, atomising air 1–2 barrecommended

Process and compatibility

Temperature and humidity
Work at 18–25 °C and up to 70 % RH. Cold slows the cure; high humidity risks haze and micro-bubbles.recommended
Don'ts
  • Don't leave the can open — the hardener pulls moisture from the air and turns cloudy/thick
  • Don't use hardener that's cloudy, gelled or has sediment
  • Don't exceed 20 %
  • Don't use it in PU products in place of the PC hardeners unless Technocolor lists it
  • Don't blend AC41 and AC40 in one batch

Storage

Packaging
2,5 лdealer
Shelf life
≈12 months in the sealed original canrecommended
Storage temperature
+5…+30 °C, dry, tightly closed; reseal straight after use (nitrogen/dry-air blanket on part-used cans helps)recommended
