C20040
C20040 standard PU hardener for PU-foam (PPU) primers
Standard polyurethane (isocyanate) hardener for the pigmented PU primers for PU foam (PPU) — series PPS400xx / PPS20040. The dealer names it as the baseline hardener against which the more elastic alternative C20041 'dries slower'. The official PU-foam finishing schedule uses it at 20 % on PPS20040 primer. There is no product page, data sheet or characteristic sheet for the hardener itself on t-color.ru or the dealer, and t-colormarket.ru search doesn't return it (re-checked 2026-10-05; also absent from the dealer's hardener category).
- Part B for the coloured PPU primers of the PPS400xx series (PPS40042 yellow, PPS40043 walnut, PPS40045 mahogany etc.) — the standard choice for rigid parts
- Part B for PPS20040 primer in the official 'Finishing PU-foam parts' schedule

Mixing matrix
- PPS20040base
Priming PU-foam parts per the official schedule: PPS20040 100 : C20040 20 : S50 30, 150 g/m², dry 4 h at 20–25 °C, scuff with K120 abrasive pads.
Fixed ratio, not a range. Schedule continues: PPL20 enamel (+C20/C61 50 %), CQS patina, PTL500 lacquer (+C200 70 %).
- S50Thinner% by weight: 30 %schedule
PPS20040 + C20040 system per the official schedule
Thinner goes into the mixed paint, not into the hardener.
Rigid PU-foam and MDF parts, sound foam — the standard, faster-drying option.
For flexible parts or problem foam use C20041 instead (more elastic, better adhesion, slower drying).
- S50Thinner% by weight: 20–30 %dealer% by volume: 40–50 %dealer
Thinning the PPS400xx + C20040 mix
Official PPS40 page: 20–30 % by weight / 35–55 % by volume.
- S80Thinner
Above ~25 °C, large panels
More dust pick-up and sag risk. Doesn't change cure time.
- C20041alternative_hardener
Flexible parts or problem foam — instead of C20040
More elastic, better adhesion, slower drying. Ratio not published.
Official hardeners for white PPS40: PC20042 20 % (30 % vol) or PC20 25 % (35 % vol)
Whether C20040 and PC20042 are the same product under different codes is unconfirmed — don't swap them without checking.

Application

The hardener isn't applied on its own. Weigh into a clean, dry cup, add to the primer, mix thoroughly, thin with S50, let it stand 5–10 min, strain. Use the mix within ~3 h at 20 °C.

- Don'ts
- Don't thin the hardener itself or leave the can open — it pulls moisture from the air.
- Don't eyeball the ratio — weigh it.
- Don't use C20040 on flexible parts — that's what C20041 is for.
- Don't swap in PC20042/PC20 without checking — the code relationship isn't confirmed.
Storage
Safety: Contains isocyanates: wear a carbon-filter respirator (air-fed preferred), gloves and goggles, ventilate. Flammable.
