PPS40
PPS40 PU primer for PU foam mouldings (white and coloured, PPS400XX series)
Two-pack pigmented polyurethane primer for cast PU-foam mouldings (cornices, ornaments, carved onlays) and MDF. Good adhesion to PU foam, high solids (76–79 %), high flexibility, good wetting and hiding, sag-resistant. Hardens fast and hand-sands easily. With PC20 hardener (25 %) it wets MDF and veneer well, raises minimal grain and shows little shrinkage. Coloured versions (yellow, walnut, light walnut, mahogany, black) are a ground for patina and shabby-chic work, where the base shows through when distressed.
- PU-foam (polyurethane foam) mouldings: decor, cornices, carved elements
- MDF and veneered surfaces before coloured enamels
- flexible parts and difficult PU foam (with the flexible C20041 hardener)
- coloured ground under patina and shabby-chic distressing

Mixing matrix
- PC20042Hardener% by weight: 20 %official% by volume: 30 %official
Primary option per the official page and catalog (series-specific hardener for PU foam).
Weigh it - fixed ratio, not a range.
- PC20Hardener% by weight: 25 %official% by volume: 35 %official
Universal aromatic PU hardener; per the dealer, with PC20 at 25 % the primer wets MDF and veneer very well, raises minimal grain and resists shrinkage.
Best pick when priming MDF/veneer rather than PU foam.
- C20040Hardener% by weight: 20 %schedule
Standard hardener per the official 'Finishing PU-foam products' schedule and the dealer's notes on the coloured versions.
C20040 appears only in the schedule and dealer notes (probably the former code of the series hardener now sold as PC20042) - confirm with the supplier.
- C20041Hardener
Flexible hardener: higher elasticity and adhesion; for flexible parts and difficult PU foam. Dries slower than with C20040.
No ratio given for C20041; start from the C20040 figure (20 % by weight) but check the hardener label.
- S50Thinner% by weight: 20–30 (typ. 25) %official% by volume: 35–55 %official
Standard (normal evaporation) thinner; the default.
Dealer: ratios are by weight; stir thoroughly before use. Default 25 % is the middle of the range (derived).
- S50Thinner% by weight: 30 %schedule
Official 'Finishing PU-foam products' schedule recipe: PPS20040 (as written in the schedule) 100 : C20040 20 : S50 30, 150 g/m².
- S80Thinner% by weight: 20–30 %recommended
Only in heat (above ~25 °C) or on big flat panels, in place of S50.
Not listed by the maker for this primer - test panel first.

- Don'ts
- Don't prime PU foam without degreasing - release agent kills adhesion
- Don't mix more than you'll spray in 3 h
- Don't thin past 30 % - build drops and shrinkage rises
- Don't sand before 3-4 h - paper clogs
- No water, no acrylic hardeners

Safety: Two-pack solvent-borne PU; the hardener contains isocyanates. Spray only in a ventilated booth with an A2P2 combination respirator (or supplied air), nitrile gloves and eye protection. Flammable - no flames or sparks.
