PC20042
PC20042 PU hardener (for PPS40 primers)
Polyurethane (isocyanate) hardener that Technocolor lists first for the PPS40 primer series — the white and coloured PU primers for PU foam and MDF. Used at 20 % by weight (30 % by volume) versus 25 % for the general-purpose PC20. It has no page of its own on t-color.ru or at the dealer: the code only appears on the PPS40 page and in the 2025–26 catalogue, and it is not on the catalogue's hardener chart. For the coloured PPS400xx the dealer names other codes — standard C20040 and flexible C20041; Technocolor doesn't say whether PC20042 is one of them.
- second component of PPS40 white primer for PU foam and MDF — 20 % by weight
- second component of the coloured PPS400xx PU-foam primers (per the catalogue, the whole series)

Mixing matrix
- PPS40base% by weight: 20 %official% by volume: 30 %official
Its main job: the series hardener for PPS40 — the white and coloured PU primers for PU foam and MDF. The official page and the catalogue list it first: 'PC20042 / PC20 — 20 / 25 %'.
Fixed ratio, not a range — weigh it. The catalogue applies the dose to the whole PPS40 coloured series ('primers of this series').
- PC20alternative_hardener% by weight: 25 %official% by volume: 35 %official
Substitute for PC20042 on the same PPS40. Per the dealer, with PC20 at 25 % the primer wets MDF and veneer very well, raises minimal grain and resists shrinkage — the pick when priming MDF/veneer rather than PU foam.
Don't blend PC20042 and PC20 in one batch — one or the other, each at its own dose.
- S50Thinner% by weight: 20–30 %official% by volume: 35–55 %official
The only thinner listed for PPS40. Add it after the hardener.
S80 is not listed for PPS40. S50 is normal-evaporation and does not change cure time.
- C20040related_hardener% by weight: 20 %schedule
Schedule 'Finishing PU-foam parts (PU)', step 1: primer PPS20040 100 : C20040 20 : S50 30, 150 g/m², dry 4 h at 20–25 °C, sand with K120 pads. The dealer calls C20040 the 'standard hardener' for the coloured PPS400xx.
C20040 goes in at the same 20 % as PC20042 in the catalogue, but Technocolor never says whether the two codes are the same product. Recorded as a related option, not an alias.
- C20041related_hardener
Dealer (PPS40042/40043/40045 pages): with C20041 the primer is more flexible and grips better — for flexible parts and problem PU foam; dries slower than with the standard C20040.

- Why ru
The hardener isn't sprayed on its own — nozzle and pressure are for the PPS40 + PC20042 + S50 mix. 1.8–2.0 mm tip; on 1.5 mm you'll have to thin harder and lose build.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- PU foam and polystone — degrease thoroughly, then a PPS400XX adhesion primer, then the chosen system (RAL enamel → CQS patina → lacquer).catalog
- Mixing
- Weigh PPS40 (100), add PC20042 at 20 %, stir, then S50 at 20–30 % of the primer weight. Let it stand 5–10 min and strain (125–190 µm). About 3 h pot life at 20 °C — only mix what you'll spray.recommended
- Sanding
- P280–P320 after 3–4 h (dealer, PPS40042); schedule: K120 pads after 4 hdealer
- Temperature and humidity
- 20–25 °Cschedule
- Don'ts
- don't dose it like PC20 (25 %) — PC20042 has its own 20 %
- don't blend PC20042 and PC20 in one batch
- don't use it with lacquers, enamels or other bases — Technocolor lists it only for PPS40
- don't leave the can open — it pulls moisture and goes cloudy or gels
- don't add it to polyester or acrylic materials
Storage
- Storage temperature
- +5…+25 °C, tightly closed, dry placerecommended
Safety: Contains isocyanates (including a volatile 'free' fraction) and organic solvents. Spray only in an extracted booth with an A2P2 respirator (air-fed is better), nitrile gloves and goggles. Highly flammable.
