PPS40043
PPS40043 PU primer for PU foam, walnut
Two-pack pigmented polyurethane primer in walnut, part of the PPS400xx series of coloured primers for PU foam (PPU: mouldings, decor, carved onlays) and MDF. Good adhesion to PU foam and MDF, high solids (76 %). A coloured base is what you want under patina or distressed finishes: when the patina is wiped back or the edges are rubbed through, you see warm walnut, not white. Hardener: the standard C20040, or the flexible C20041 for bendy parts and 'difficult' foam (dries slower). Thinner: S50. The 2025-26 catalogue lists PC20042 (20 %) / PC20 (25 %) for the coloured PPS40 series; C20040 is not currently sold by the dealer. No page on t-color.ru; data come from the dealer shop t-colormarket.ru and the 2019 Technocolor catalogue.
- Priming PU-foam parts (mouldings, cornices, decor, carvings) for coloured enamels
- Priming MDF fronts and parts for coloured enamels
- Coloured base under patina and shabby-chic distressing (walnut shows through where you rub back)
- Flexible PU-foam parts — with C20041 hardener

Mixing matrix
- C20040Hardener% by weight: 20 %catalog% by volume: 30 %recommended
Standard choice: ordinary rigid PU-foam parts and MDF. Dries faster than on C20041.
Fixed ratio, by weight. The dealer calls C20040 the 'standard hardener' (note on the PPS40043 card).
- C20041Hardener% by weight: 20 %catalog% by volume: 30 %recommended
Flexible PU-foam parts and 'difficult' foam: more elastic film, better adhesion to the substrate. Dries slower than on C20040.
Dealer note: primer catalysed with C20041 has higher elasticity and better adhesion to the substrate; drying is slower than with standard C20040.
- S50Thinner% by weight: 20–30 (typ. 25) %dealer% by volume: 40–50 %dealer
Always. S50 is the universal, normal-evaporation PU thinner.
The dealer gives ratios in parts by weight (note on PPS40042). S50 doesn't change cure time.
- S80Thinner% by weight: 20–25 %recommended
Only in hot weather (above ~25 °C) if the primer dries to a dusty, rough film.
Unofficial. More dust pick-up and sag risk.
- C20040Hardener% by weight: 20 %schedule
Official 'Finishing PU-foam products' schedule: primer 100 : C20040 20 : S50 30, 150 g/m², dry 4 h at 20–25 °C, scuff with K120 abrasive mats.
The schedule names PPS20040, the former code of the white PU-foam primer (now PPS40/PPS40040); walnut PPS40043 uses the same system (same hardener and dose per the 2019 catalogue).
- S50Thinner% by weight: 30 %schedule
Per the PPU schedule — top of the range, so the primer flows into the relief.
Current option per the 2025-26 catalogue for the coloured PPS40 series: PC20042 at 20 %, PC20 at 25 %. The dealer does not sell C20040; when buying, ask the dealer which hardener goes with your batch of PPS40043.
The 2025-26 catalogue gives these hardeners for the whole coloured series; not confirmed separately for walnut PPS40043. Do a test panel.

- Don'ts
- Don't prime PU foam without degreasing — release agent kills adhesion
- Don't mix C20040 and C20041 in one batch — pick one
- Don't mix more than you'll spray within 3 h
- Don't thin past 30 % — build drops and shrinkage goes up
- Don't sand before 3–4 h (later still with C20041) — paper clogs
- Don't put clear lacquer straight on it without enamel — it's a primer, not a finish

Safety: Two-pack solvent-borne PU; the hardener contains isocyanates. Spray only in an extracted booth with an A2P2 combination respirator (or supplied air), nitrile gloves and eye protection. Flammable — no flames or sparks. Wear a mask when sanding.
