ATL2

ATL2 acrylic converter (tinting base) for pearlescent and metallic enamels

Two-pack clear acrylic (acrylic/isocyanate, AC40-cured) converter — the base for making pearlescent and metallic enamels by tinting with CS pastes. The formulation orients the pearl flakes evenly through the film for a deep pearl lustre. High physical/chemical resistance, non-yellowing.

  • Making acrylic pearlescent and metallic enamels (tinted with CS 00xxx pastes)
  • Decorative finishing of wood items (incl. MDF) over an opaque base enamel
  • Finishing metal, PU foam (PPU) and glass items (per CS paste catalogue)
  • Interior use only

When: S50 — normal evaporation, the default; S80 — slow, above ~25 °C and on big panels. On pearl, S80 keeps the film open longer so flakes lie flatter, but sag risk goes up.

S50 — normal evaporation, the default; S80 — slow, above ~25 °C and on big panels. On pearl, S80 keeps the film open longer so flakes lie flatter, but sag risk goes up.

These are the official product-page figures (20–30 % by weight, 25–35 % by volume).

  • S50 / S80Thinner
    % by weight: 30–40 %catalog

    2025–2026 catalogue variant: 30–40 % (weight/volume not distinguished).

Conflicts with the official page (20–30 % by weight). For pearl, stay toward the low end — heavy thinning gives mottling/clouding and uneven flake orientation. The catalogue may simply repeat the ATL1 line.

Tinting — stir the paste into the converter before adding hardener; pastes can be blended.

10 % max. Mix well — pearl flakes settle.

  • D1570Additive
    % by weight: 3 %catalog

Glass only: in the first (adhesion) coat of acrylic over degreased glass.

Catalogue gives 3 % for acrylic coatings generally, not ATL2 specifically; later decorative coats go without it.

    % by weight: 2–3 %catalog

Alternative to D1570 for acrylics on glass.

Don'ts
  • Don't go over 10 % CS paste in ATL2
  • Don't sand or polish the pearl coat
  • Don't leave pearl without the clear gloss topcoat
  • Don't lay it on heavy — sags and clouding
  • Not for exterior use (CS pastes are interior-only)
  • Don't swap AC40 for another hardener without a test

Safety: Contains organic solvents and, once mixed with AC40, isocyanates: spray in a ventilated booth, wear an A2P2/A2P3 respirator, gloves and goggles. Flammable — keep away from ignition sources.
