PTS71 Clear polyurethane (PU) isolating primer / sealer
Two-pack clear polyurethane isolating primer (cured with PC72). It goes on first, as a thin coat: it wets out very well, bonds to a wide range of timbers, blocks resin and extractive bleed from resinous and exotic species, and on MDF it seals the surface so the following coats don't sink in unevenly. Very clear and kind to stains, so it can go over dyed wood. Low viscosity and low solids (21 %) - this is not a build primer but a barrier coat under the main primer. The next coat can go on without sanding after 40–60 minutes.

Official method: spray at 80–100 g/m² (orange spray icon in the catalog). Lay one even, wet coat; MDF edges can take a second pass. Flush the gun with S50 within the 6 h pot life.

- Don'ts
- Don't lay it on heavy - it's an 80–100 g/m² sealer, not a build primer; a thick coat stays soft and later coats sink.
- Don't miss the recoat window: next coat without sanding at 40–60 min; past that, give it a light scuff.
- Don't use mix older than 6 h.
- Don't use PTS71 as a topcoat or count on it staying water-white under a pale clear finish - PC72 is the most yellowing hardener in the range.
- Don't confuse it with PTS72 (melamine adhesion primer) and don't swap hardeners - every source lists PC72 only.
- Don't spray above 75–80 % RH.

Safety: Highly flammable (solvents in the base and in S50). PC72 hardener contains aromatic isocyanates: spray in a booth with extraction, wear an A2P2 respirator (air-fed is better), nitrile gloves and eye protection. No smoking or sparks. Keep solvent rags in a closed metal bin. (General 2K PU rules - no manufacturer SDS was found.)
