ATL503
ATL503 Acrylic gloss thixotropic lacquer (100 gloss)
Two-pack acrylic (acrylic-PU) clear high-gloss lacquer with thixotropic body. High physical and chemical resistance, high gloss and good resistance to yellowing over time. The thixotropy lets it hold a heavy film on verticals and profiles without runs. Cured with the gloss hardener AC200 at a high ratio (70-100 %).
- gloss topcoat over sanded primer on MDF and solid-wood fronts
- vertical and profiled parts where a standard gloss lacquer would run
- kitchen and bathroom furniture (lightfast, non-yellowing)

Mixing matrix
- AC200Hardener% by weight: 70–100 %official% by volume: 70–100 %official
AC200 is Technocolor's aliphatic gloss hardener (~44 % solids per the catalog chart). Weigh it — at this ratio eyeballing is not good enough.
- % by weight: 0–20 %official% by volume: 0–25 %official
Both are slow thinners (official). Slow thinner is what gives the gloss time to flow out; in heat or on big flats go toward the top of the range.
Technocolor does not list a normal/fast thinner (S50) for ATL503.

15-20 cm distance, 50-75 % overlap, fan wide open. Lay the gloss as one full wet coat — the thixotropy holds it up but it levels poorly, so a dry coat will orange-peel.

Transfer efficiency up to 40 % (methods page) — more overspray, which is bad news for gloss in a dusty booth.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Apply over sanded, de-dusted primer (acrylic or PU) or enamel; final primer sand P320-P400.recommended
- Sanding
- Denib between coats at P800-P1200 after an overnight dry. Polish only after full cure (24 h), ideally 48-72 h.recommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 18-25 °C, 50-70 % RH; material and parts no colder than 18 °C.recommended
- Don'ts
- don't sand the final gloss coat unless you plan to polish it
- don't dust a thin dry coat of thixotropic gloss on flat horizontals — it will orange-peel
- don't use the mix past its 4 h pot life
- don't thin with a fast thinner
Storage
Safety: Contains solvents and an isocyanate hardener: spray in an extracted booth with a carbon-filter respirator (A2P2/A2P3), gloves and eye protection.
