AC200

AC200 Hardener for high-gloss coatings

Isocyanate hardener (part B) for Technocolor 100-gloss PU and acrylic lacquers and enamels: ATL200/203/500/503, PTL200/500, PPL200/500 and the PTL100/PPL100 tinting converters. Solids 44 ± 1 %. On the catalog chart it sits in the 'hardeners for gloss lacquers' group; for non-yellowing it is beaten only by the aliphatic acrylic hardeners AC41 and AC40 and ranks above PC210 and PC60; on speed it sits toward the fast/hard end. Gives a hard, deep-gloss film that polishes well. The finishing schedules write it as 'C200'.

Dealer: 'AC200 / PC210', 70–100 % (proportions stated as parts by weight). Up to 100 % gives more crosslinking and chemical resistance but shorter pot life.

Dealer lists 70 % by volume against 70–100 % by weight — that does not add up for a dense enamel; for volume use the official 90 %.

  • PC210Hardener

Listed as the alternative on PTL100 ('PC210/AC200', official) and PTL500 ('AC200/PC210', dealer). Per catalog chart PC210 is also a gloss-group hardener, ≈36 % solids, faster/harder, slightly less yellowing-resistant than AC200. Dealer (PTL200, PPL500): 'C210 gives faster drying, C200 gives higher physical and chemical resistance'.

  • PC72Hardener

Only on PTL500 ('PC72/AC200', official). PC72 is aromatic, the slowest/most flexible and least yellowing-resistant — not for whites and pale colours.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Process and compatibility

Mixing
Stir the base well, add AC200 by weight (or by volume — see the matrix), mix, then thin with S70/S80 to spray viscosity and strain. Let it stand 5–10 min so the air comes out. Use the mix within its pot life (4–6 h at 20 °C).recommended
Temperature and humidity
15–25 °C, RH 40–75 %recommended
Don'ts
  • Don't leave the can open — the hardener reacts with moisture in the air, goes hazy and thick; if it has thickened or skinned, bin it.
  • Don't swap in hardeners from other groups by eye (PC72, PC20, etc.) — yellowing resistance and gloss change.
  • Don't use PC72 under whites or pale enamels — it yellows.
  • Never pour leftover mix back into the hardener can.
