S100

S100 Retarder thinner for PU (very slow)

Very slow retarder thinner for 2K polyurethane and acrylic materials. Very low evaporation rate: keeps the wet film open longer, improves flow-out and stops air bubbles / solvent pop in the film in hot weather. Added in small amounts on top of the main thinner (S50/S70/S80), not instead of it.

  • Retarder for 2K PU and acrylic lacquers, enamels and primers in heat (above ~25 °C)
  • Stops bubbles / solvent pop in the lacquer film in summer
  • Better flow-out of high-gloss (100 gloss) lacquers and enamels and table-top lacquers
  • Fights dry spray on big flat panels in hot, dry air

Mixing matrix

  • S50 / S70 / S80Thinner
% by weight: 5–10 %dealer% by volume: not stated %dealer

Heat, poor flow-out, bubbles. Main thinner per the host material (S50 for primers and matt, S70/S80 for gloss).

Dealer cards: PTL60 SM — 'small amounts of S100 (5–10 %) on top of the main thinner'; PTL200 and PPL500 — 'in hot weather S100 or S101 retarder, 5–10 % on top of the main thinner'.

  • S70 / S80Thinner
% by weight: 10–15 %dealer% by volume: not stated %dealer

ATL200 acrylic 100-gloss lacquer in hot weather.

'To improve flow in hot weather use S100 or S101 retarder at 10–15 %' (dealer).

  • S50 / S80Thinner

Matt/semi-matt lacquers and primers above 25–28 °C or when dry spray shows.

Never exceed the host's total thinner range — build drops and sag risk rises.

Characteristics

Evaporation rate
Dilution power
not stated for S100 (catalog gives S70/S80 'средняя разбавляющая способность', S31/S50 'хорошая'; S100 row lists only evaporation)catalog

Effect on cure

Application

HVLP

Nozzle
Pressure · air
as host material; if anything 0.1–0.2 bar less, since the slower film flows out without extra atomisationrecommended
Flash-off

Add after the hardener and main thinner, stir, check viscosity with the cup. On verticals lay thinner coats or it'll sag. Keep the booth well ventilated and clean — the film stays dust-catching longer.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Nozzle

Airmix needs less thinner overall — keep the retarder at the low end.

High-pressure guns dry the fan more — this is where S100 helps most in heat.

Process and compatibility

Temperature and humidity
Use when the shop is above ~25 °C; at 18–25 °C normally not needed.catalog
Don'ts
  • Don't use it as the only thinner — only on top of the main one
  • Don't exceed the host material's total thinner range
  • Don't recoat too early — trapped solvent pops
  • Don't add to polyester, nitro or waterborne materials
  • Don't expect it to change cure speed — it only changes evaporation

Storage

Packaging

Storage temperature
5–25 °Crecommended

Safety: Flammable organic solvent blend. Use with good ventilation, an organic-vapour respirator (A2) and gloves; keep away from sparks and naked flames; in 2K mixes the hardener adds isocyanate exposure.
