S101
S101 Retarder (PU thinner, very slow)
Retarder for 2K polyurethane (and acrylic) lacquers and enamels. The dealer names it alongside S100 as an either/or choice: in hot weather add 5–10 % (10–15 % in the ATL200 acrylic) on top of the main thinner to improve flow-out and avoid bubbles and dry spray. No S101 data of its own is published anywhere; everything below not tagged 'dealer' is derived by analogy with S100.
- Hot-weather retarder for PTL200, PTL202 high-gloss PU lacquers
- Hot-weather retarder for PPL500 white high-gloss PU enamel
- Hot-weather retarder for ATL200 acrylic high-gloss lacquer
- Against bubbles / orange peel on big panels above 25 °C

- % by weight: 5–10 %dealer
Hot weather, for better flow-out
Main thinner (dealer): PTL200 — S80/S70 30–40 % (weight and volume); PPL500 — S80/S70 30–40 %. Official PPL500 page: S70 20–30 % by weight / 30–40 % by volume (hardener AC200 70 % / 90 %). S101 goes on top. S100 can be used instead.

Application
HVLP
- Nozzle
- Pressure · air
- Flash-off
Add after hardener and main thinner, stir, check viscosity in a DIN4/VZ-4 cup. Gun set-up as for the host material. Thinner coats on verticals or it'll sag; keep the booth clean — the film catches dust for longer.
Conventional spray
- Nozzle
High-pressure guns dry the fan out most in heat — this is where the retarder earns its keep.
Airmix (air-assisted airless)
- Nozzle
- Pressure · fluid
- 20 barofficial
- Pressure · air
- 1–2 barofficial
Airmix needs less thinner overall — keep the retarder at the low end (5 %).
Process and compatibility
- Goes into
- PTL200, PTL202, PPL500, ATL200
- Goes with
- S70, S80, S100, AC200, PC210, PC72
- Temperature and humidity
- Use in hot weather (rule of thumb: above ~25 °C). Normally not needed at 18–25 °C.recommended
- Don'ts
- Don't use as the only thinner
- Don't exceed 10 % (15 % for ATL200) on top of the main thinner
- Don't recoat early — solvent pop
- Don't use in a cold shop — drags drying and causes sags
Storage

- Storage temperature
5–25 °Crecommended
Safety: Flammable organic solvent blend. Ventilation, A2 organic-vapour respirator, gloves; keep away from sparks and flames. In 2K mixes the hardener adds isocyanate exposure.
