LGA531

LGA531 Thixotropic PU lacquer, 65 gloss — clear 2K polyurethane topcoat for electrostatic spraying

Clear two-pack polyurethane topcoat, 65 gloss. Thixotropic, so it hangs on verticals and carved/turned profiles without runs; dries fast and leaves a pleasant, smooth feel. Built for electrostatic spraying (chairs, open-frame and turned parts) but sprays fine conventionally too. Mixes 2:1 with hardener (50 %) and takes 10–30 % S50/S70/S80 thinner. Interior use only.

  • Chairs (beech etc.) and open-frame furniture
  • Carved, routed and turned furniture parts
  • Tables and table legs
  • Solid wood and MDF parts
  • Topcoat over PU sealer on an electrostatic line

Mixing matrix

  • LNB42 / LNB77 / LNB5Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %official% by volume: 50 %official

Standard option per the Technocolor page — any of the three hardeners.

Fixed 2:1 (lacquer : hardener), same figure by weight and by volume (lacquer and hardener both ≈ 0.97 g/ml). Хольцком lists LNB42/LNB77 at 50/50. Per Milesi/dealer: LNB42 and LNB77 for conventional spraying, LNB5 (= LNB05) for electrostatic bells/discs (better wetting); LNB42 gives better filling.

  • LNB500Hardener
    % by weight: 50 %datasheet

Hardener on the original Milesi TDS (not listed by Technocolor).

TDS: 'for better filling power use LNB42 (50 %) instead of LNB500'. The 3 h pot life is quoted with LNB500.

  • LNB42 / LNB05 / LNB42A / LNB77 / LNB190 / LNB111Hardener
    % by weight: 50–60 %dealer

Alternative from the Hungarian Milesi distributor (series page).

LNB42 is the main one; LNB05, 42A, 77, 190 and 111 also allowed. LNB190 is the better non-yellowing choice for pale woods. Page is titled LGA 531 but describes 45 gloss — treat with care; Technocolor states 50 % only.

  • LNB (series)Hardener
    % by volume: 50 %dealer

    EDID (Milesi Bulgaria) electrostatic schedule.

    LNB-series hardener at 50 %.

  • S50 / S70 / S80Thinner
    % by weight: 10–30 (typ. 20) %official% by volume: 10–30 %official

Standard range per the Technocolor page.

S50 is the universal medium-evaporation thinner (default, verticals). S70/S80 are slow: above ~25 °C, large parts, better flow-out; more dust pick-up and sag risk. Thinner choice doesn't change cure time. Default 20 % is an engineering mid-point of the range.

  • LZC13Thinner
    % by volume: 25–30 %dealer

    Electrostatic spraying (EDID schedule).

LZC13 is Milesi's dedicated electrostatic thinner (controlled conductivity). EDID's worked example is actually 35 %, slightly above its stated range. Not listed by Technocolor — if spraying electrostatically with S50/S70/S80, check mix resistivity.

  • LZC1026 / LZC8643Thinner
    % by weight: 20–30 %dealer

    Below 23 °C use LZC1026, above use LZC8643 (milesi.hu).

Original Milesi thinners; Technocolor equivalents are S50 (universal) and S70/S80 (slow). Page titled LGA 531 but describes 45 gloss.

  • LZC1026Thinner
    % by weight: 10–30 %datasheet

Thinner on the original Milesi TDS; same 10–30 % range Technocolor gives for S50/S70/S80.

    Technocolor equivalent: S50/S70/S80.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

The lacquer's primary method (TDS: air-assisted electrostatic spraying of turnings, chairs and frames). Ground the part; LNB5 (= LNB05) hardener is the one recommended for electrostatic bells/discs; thin with electrostatic thinner (LZC13) or check mix resistivity when using S-thinners. See the official methods page.

Don'ts
  • Don't use outdoors — interior-only lacquer.
  • Don't drift from 2:1 with hardener — short or over-catalysed mixes lose hardness and gloss uniformity.
  • Don't spray past pot life (budget 2–3 h).
  • Don't spray below 15 °C or in direct sun.
  • Don't sand or polish the final 65-gloss coat — the sheen goes patchy.
  • Don't stack or pack before 24 h.

Safety: Highly flammable (H225); irritates skin, eyes and airways; may damage organs on prolonged exposure (H373). The sister LGA532 SDS lists 30–50 % xylene plus ethylbenzene and isobutyl acetate; LNB hardeners contain isocyanates. Spray in an extracted booth, wear an A2P2 respirator (or air-fed), nitrile gloves and goggles; clean the gun straight away.
