PPL01

PPL01 white fire-retardant PU enamel, matt (20 gloss)

Two-pack white matt polyurethane enamel with fire-retardant additives. Good hiding power, good physical and chemical resistance. When heated the fire-retardant components break down and give off a non-combustible gas that cuts off oxygen and slows flame spread. Over the PPS01 fire-retardant primer it rates Group I fire-protection efficiency to GOST R 53292-2009 (cl. 6.1). No official t-color.ru page — data from the dealer (t-colormarket.ru) and the Technocolor 'Fire-retardant materials' leaflet.

  • protecting interior timber structures and raising their fire resistance
  • white opaque fire-retardant finish: wall panelling, doors, furniture, public-building interiors
  • top coat of System 2 (pigmented): PPS01 → PPL01, Group I to GOST R 53292-2009

Dealer and leaflet list PC20 / PC60 as alternatives — use one or the other, don't blend.

Always; S50 is the universal, normal-evaporation thinner (verticals, normal shop).

20 % for verticals and maximum build; 30 % on flats for better flow-out. Thinner doesn't change cure time.

  • S80Thinner

Only in hot weather (above ~25 °C) or on large flat panels, instead of S50.

More dust pick-up and sag risk; avoid on verticals. Fire tests were done with S50 — stick to S50 on certified jobs.

Application

HVLP

Pressure · fluid
gravity cup; pressure pot 0.8–1.5 barrecommended
Coats
1 full coat at 150 g/m², or 2 lighter wet-on-wet passes adding up to 150 g/m²recommended
Recoat
after ~4 h with a denib; within 24 h without heavy sandingrecommended
Sanding between coats
P320–P400 or grey pad, denib onlyrecommended

HVLP, 1.8 mm (1.7–1.9), 2.0–2.5 bar inlet trigger pulled, ≤0.7 bar at the cap, fan fully open, 15–20 cm, 50–75 % overlap. Stir part A right to the bottom first (dealer: 'mix thoroughly before use') — the fire-retardant fillers settle. Strain the mix (125–190 µm). Keep the 150 g/m² rate even — both the fire rating and an even matt sheen depend on it. source

Conventional spray

Consumption
150 g/m²dealer

Air spray: transfer efficiency up to ~40 % (methods page) — you'll use more than 150 g/m² of material per part. official

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Nozzle
09–11 thou (0.23–0.28 mm), 40–50° fanrecommended

For production runs of panels and doors. Not published by Technocolor — test first and check the 150 g/m² rate by weighing a test panel.

Airless

Nozzle
11–13 thou (0.28–0.33 mm)recommended

Large flat parts only; finish quality is below airmix/HVLP.

Brush

Not recommended: Technocolor lists spray only and the fire rating is for spraying at 150 g/m². Brush only for small touch-ups, not on certified work. recommended

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Dry timber/plywood/MDF (8–12 % MC), sanded P180–P240 and de-dusted. Prime with PPS01 fire-retardant primer (150 g/m²), sand P280–P320 when dry, de-dust, then PPL01.recommended

System
Temperature and humidity
18–25 °C, RH 50–70 %; part A and hardener at room temperaturerecommended
Don'ts
  • don't go under or over 50 % hardener
  • don't apply less than 150 g/m² — the fire rating is for this system at this rate
  • don't swap PPS01 for an ordinary primer if you need the GOST fire rating
  • not for exterior use — interior only
  • don't use the mix past 4 h pot life
  • don't sand or polish the final matt coat — you'll get shiny patches
  • don't leave the hardener can open

Safety: Solvent-borne 2K PU: flammable (the cured film is fire-retardant, the wet material is not). The hardener contains isocyanates — airway and skin sensitiser. Use an extracted booth, A2P3 respirator or air-fed mask, nitrile gloves and goggles.
