CTS4

CTS4 solvent-soluble dye toner, brown, for adding to lacquer

Solvent-soluble (ОР) brown dye toner that goes straight into the lacquer. Clear and bright: it doesn't hide the grain, it tints the film and gives the finish more uniform colour and brightness. Compatible with polyurethane, nitrocellulose and acrylic finishes. Dose 0.5–1 % into the lacquer, added just before use; applied by spraying.

  • Toning clear PU, acrylic and NC lacquers at 0.5–1 %
  • Evening out colour and adding brightness to the finish
  • Toning the acrylic topcoat ATL20 + C40 + S80 + CTS 0.5 % over patinated oak (official schedule)
  • Toning the PU topcoat PTL61 + C61 + S70 + CTS 0.5 % on veneered worktops (official schedule)
  • Colour-matching a stained piece with light passes of tinted lacquer (workshop practice, not from a source)

Mixing matrix

  • CTS4Additive
    % by weight: 0.5–1 %dealer

Into PU, acrylic and NC lacquers. Add just before use and stir thoroughly.

Past 1 % the colour muddies fast and swings with film thickness; get the depth from a stain and just fine-tune with CTS.

  • ATL20 / AC40 / S80 / CTS4host_system

    Open-pore oak kitchen fronts (acrylic): topcoat over CQS patina, 150 g/m², dry 1.5 h at 30–35 °C.

The schedule doesn't name the CTS colour — pick it to suit (brown CTS4 for warm walnut-ish oak).

  • PTL61 / C61 / S70 / CTS4host_system

    Beech-veneer worktops (PU; the page heading on the site is a copy-paste of the oak schedule): topcoat over PTS60 + C26 + S50, 150 g/m², dry 1.5 h at 30–35 °C.

Here the base colour comes from CTH water dye + CFH1 + water (80–100 g/m²); CTS in the topcoat evens it out.

Don'ts
  • Don't go above 1 % — the colour muddies and swings with film thickness
  • Don't add to water-borne lacquers — use the CTH series there
  • Don't make up tinted lacquer in advance — add the dye just before use
  • Don't spray unevenly: every extra overlap shows as a darker stripe
