PolyurethanePrimer

PPS10

PPS10 White PU primer (economy)

Two-pack white polyurethane primer, economy grade. High solids and good fill at a low price, good adhesion and hiding, resists runs and sags, dries fast, has good hardness, and shows minimal shrink-back over time. Made for high-throughput matt finishing lines - MDF doors and panels under coloured enamels.

  • priming MDF furniture doors and panels for coloured PU enamels
  • high-throughput matt finishing lines (doors, cabinet fronts, routed parts)
  • budget primer where cost matters more than top-end performance

  • PC20Hardener
    % by weight: 30 %official% by volume: 50 %official

Default option - the only one the dealer lists; in the 2025 catalog.

Fixed ratio - weigh the hardener. PC20 and PC10 are both fast/hard aromatic hardeners (2025 catalog chart); PC20 sits slightly better on the yellowing scale. Pot life 2 h (dealer).

  • PC10Hardener
    % by weight: 40 %official% by volume: 70 %official

Alternative to PC20; in the 2022 catalog it was PPS10's only hardener.

Fixed ratio. Pot life and drying with PC10 are not published - assume about 2 h and don't push it.

  • S50Thinner
    % by weight: 10-20 %official% by volume: 20–40 %official

Always. 10 % for maximum build on a big tip (2.0 mm); 20 % on 1.8 mm, routed profiles and relief.

S50 is the universal normal-evaporation thinner. Don't go past 20 % - the primer loses build and starts to run.

  • S80Thinner
    % by weight: 10–20 (typ. 15) %recommended

Only in the heat (above ~25 °C) or on big flat panels when the primer goes on dry.

Not listed by Technocolor for PPS10. More dust pick-up and more sag risk.

Don'ts
  • don't eyeball the hardener - 30 % PC20 or 40 % PC10 by weight
  • don't mix PC10 and PC20 in one batch - different ratios
  • don't use the mix after 2 h
  • don't thin past 20 % S50
  • don't lay more than 150 g/m² per coat
  • don't sand while it still gums the paper
  • don't leave it as a finish - it goes under enamel
