S2000
S2000 Patina thinner
Thinner for solvent-borne patinas (CQS range). Fast evaporation, low aggressiveness towards the substrate: it cuts the patina to working strength, flashes off fast (you can start wiping back within minutes) and does not dissolve or soften the primer/lacquer underneath.
- Thinning coloured CQS patinas (CQS1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 21–26, 98, 19872) — 100–200 % by weight
- Thinning metallic CQS41A (gold) and CQS42A (silver) patinas — 100–200 % by weight
- Patina over acrylic and PU primers/enamels (decapé, distressing, PU-foam mouldings, shabby chic)

Official CQS patina pages: thinner S10 / S2000, 100–200 % by weight and by volume; sprayed at 80–100 g/m² (CQS41A: 60–100 g/m²). (The CQS41A page gives the weight figure only.)
100 % gives a strong patina that loads the pores and edges; 200 % gives a light, see-through wash. Always run a test panel first.
- CQSThinner% by weight: 100–300 %catalog
2025–2026 catalogue, CQS section: thinner S10, S2000 at 100–300 %, spray then rub, 80–100 g/m².
The catalogue allows more dilution than the product pages (up to 300 %) for a very faint effect. The catalogue does not say whether this is by weight or by volume.

Schedules 'Oak kitchen doors, decapé (acrylic)', 'Open-pore oak kitchen doors (acrylic)', 'PU-foam mouldings (PU)': CQS 100 + S10 100, 80–100 g/m² (open-pore schedule gives no rate), dry 5 min (PU foam: 5–10 min) at 20–25 °C, wipe back with Scotch-Brite 07448 / S UFN or No. 2 steel wool, then topcoat (ATL20 + C40 / PTL500 + C200).
The schedules name S10; S2000 swaps in 1:1 per the official CQS pages — reach for it when the patina goes over a fresh or soft primer/enamel.
- % by weight: 100–200 %official
Metallic patinas CQS41001, CQS41002, CQS43001, CQS44001: the official pages list S10 only (100–200 %). The 2025–2026 catalogue gives «S10, S2000 100–300 %» for the whole CQS range (incl. 41XXX–44XXX), so it isn't ruled out, but these product pages do not list S2000.
If you do thin them with S2000, test compatibility first.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Patina goes over a cured PU or acrylic primer/enamel (CQS pages: 'applied over PU and acrylic primers').official
- Temperature and humidity
- 20–25 °Cschedule
- Don'ts
- Don't use S2000 to thin 2K PU/acrylic lacquers or primers — use S50/S80 (S2000 is not listed for them)
- Don't confuse with S10: S10 is fast with strong solvency (stains, polyester, also patinas); S2000 is gentle on the substrate and made specifically for patinas
- Don't leave the patina too long before wiping back — S2000 flashes off fast and the patina grabs
- Why S2000 over S10
- S2000 dries as fast as S10 but is gentler on the base — less risk of lifting or softening a fresh acrylic primer/enamel and smearing it when you rub back.dealer
