CQS98 Patina, Walnut

Solvent-borne walnut patina for antiqued and decapé effects. Sprayed as a single coat over a PU or acrylic primer or enamel; after 5–10 minutes you knock the excess back with a Scotch-Brite pad or steel wool so the colour stays in the pores, recesses and on the edges. Dries fast, wipes back easily by hand, very low consumption. Must be locked in under a clear lacquer.

  • Antiquing furniture and interior wood items
  • Decapé (limed-look) effect on open-pore oak kitchen doors
  • Glazing raised-panel and carved doors over enamel
  • Finishing PU-foam (ППУ) décor and mouldings
  • 'Blur' special effect (patina softened with S10)
  • Applied as droplets together with S10 for the 'Stone' effect (special-effects catalog)

Standard let-down per the official product page.

Catalog: S10 is fast with high solvency (stains, PE primers, patinas); dealer says patina thinned with S10 is harder to wipe back. S2000 is the dedicated patina thinner: high evaporation rate, low aggressiveness (less risk of biting into the coat underneath). How much easier S2000 makes wipe-back vs S10 is not stated officially.

Finishing schedules: PU foam items; open-pore oak doors (acrylic); oak doors with decapé effect (acrylic) — all CQS 100 / S10 100.

Dealer: thinning with ethanol makes it wipe off easier. No ratio given — stay in the same 100–200 % window.

Removability
Official: wipes back easily by hand ('хорошо удаляется вручную'). Dealer: ease of removal is tuned by the thinner — thinned with ethyl alcohol it comes off easier, with S10 harder.dealer

Recoat
Wipe back after 5–10 min, then clear lacquer once the remaining patina is dry (schedules go straight from wipe-back to lacquer).schedule
Sanding between coats
No sanding between coats (single patina step). Excess is knocked back with Scotch-Brite 07448 / S UFN (oak schedules) or steel wool No 2 (PU-foam schedule). Special-effects catalog also allows sanding the patina back once dry; Shabby-chic = selective sand-through with coarse abrasive.schedule

20–25 cm off the work, fast passes, a light wet-to-dry mist; overlap into profiles and recesses. Don't flood it — whatever you put on extra you just have to scrub back off.

Conventional spray

For the 'Blur' effect, mist S10 over the patina at low pressure.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Consumption

Not recommended on airless — too much material, floods the profiles.

Catalog: 'spray + rub', 80–100 g/m² — spray on, then rub/wipe back the excess with cloth, Scotch-Brite or steel wool.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Official: over PU or acrylic primers. Schedules/special-effects catalog also put it over cured, sanded enamel (PPL20, APL20, RAL) and, on open-pore oak, over stained wood sealed with sanded ATS20 clear primer. Surface dry and dust-free.official
Goes over
PU primers (PPS20040 + C20040 in PU-foam schedule; PPS20, PPS400XX in special-effects catalog) / acrylic primers (APS20 decapé schedule; APS20106 Blur; ATS20 clear primer on open-pore oak) / PU/acrylic enamels (PPL20 RAL/NCS, APL20 RAL/NCS, APL RAL) / metallised enamel APL800XX sealed with ATL20 SM (special-effects catalog)
Goes under

Sanding
Wipe back excess with steel wool No 2 (PU foam) or Scotch-Brite 07448 / S UFN (oak schedules) 5–10 min after spraying.schedule
Temperature and humidity

Don'ts
  • Never leave patina without a clear lacquer — it is not a topcoat
  • Don't spray it over uncured or unsanded primer/enamel
  • Don't lay it on heavy — over 80–100 g/m² just makes wipe-back harder
  • Don't wait too long before wiping back: thinned with S10 it grabs fast
