CQS2

CQS2 Red-orange patina

Solvent-borne patina, red-orange base colour. Sprayed over polyurethane or acrylic primers/enamels; once flashed off, the excess is cut back with steel wool or Scotch-Brite, leaving colour in pores, recesses and on edges (antique / decapé effect). Dries fast, wipes back easily by hand, very low consumption.

  • Antiquing interior furniture and wooden articles
  • Decapé on open-pore oak (colour held in the pores)
  • Patinating mouldings, raised panels, carvings and PU-foam (PPU) mouldings
  • Base colour for mixing custom patina shades
  • Decorative 'Stone' (dripped) effect and antiquing metallised enamel — per the special-effects catalog

Mixing matrix

  • S10Thinner
    % by weight: 100–200 %official% by volume: 100–200 %official

When the patina should hold harder and take more effort to cut back (dealer: thinned with S10 it is harder to remove). S10 = fast, strong solvent (2025 catalog).

Thinned with S10 the patina is harder to remove (dealer). More thinner = lighter, more transparent tone.

  • S2000Thinner
    % by weight: 100–200 %official% by volume: 100–200 %official

For hand wiping-back — S2000 is the dedicated patina thinner: fast evaporation, low aggressiveness (does not bite into the base coat).

    The dealer's recommended companion product.

  • S10 / S2000Thinner
    % by weight: 100–300 %catalog

Wider range from the 2022 catalog for the CQS series — up to 300 % for a very light, transparent patina.

The catalogs do not say whether by weight or volume; the product page gives 100–200 % for both.

  • S10Thinner

Schedules 'Open-pore oak kitchen fronts (acrylic)', 'Oak kitchen fronts, decapé (acrylic)' and 'PU-foam (PPU) products (PU)' — all use CQS : S10 = 100 : 100; 80–100 g/m² is stated in the decapé and PPU schedules (the open-pore schedule gives no rate for the patina).

  • ethanolThinner

When the patina must wipe back as easily as possible.

Dealer: thinned with ethyl alcohol the patina wipes off more easily, with S10 harder. No ratio is published anywhere; by analogy stay within 100–200 % (not official).

  • S13Thinner

The 2025 catalog thinner table lists S13 (fast) for stains and patinas; it is not named on the CQS2 page or the CQS card.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Recoat

Sanding between coats
cut back the patina with Scotch-Brite / steel wool (product page and schedules); the special-effects catalog describes it as 'sanded' after drying, so a very fine abrasive is acceptable but uneven. Denib the first lacquer coat over it only lightly (P400+) or the colour cuts through on edgesrecommended

1.2 mm tip, 1.5–2 bar inlet, 15–20 cm distance, 50 % overlap. Lay it on evenly, hitting profiles from several angles. After ~5 min cut back with Scotch-Brite (07448 S UFN) or #2 steel wool, along the grain / off the edges. Stir well — the pigment settles.

The official method is spraying (gun type not specified). Per the methods page conventional air spray transfers only up to ~40 %, acceptable at such a low consumption.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Why ru
По странице методов airmix/airless предназначены для толстослойных грунтов на больших плоских панелях; патина с протиркой — противоположный случай.

Not recommended: thinned patina is extremely runny and the target is only 80–100 g/m² — airmix/airless deliver far too much and it pools/runs in profiles.

Spray then rub

Consumption

The 2025 catalog gives 'Spray + Rub' for CQS at 80–100 g/m²: spray on, then rub in / cut back the excess (Scotch-Brite, steel wool).

Don'ts
  • Don't spray it on bare wood — it is designed for a primed or enamelled surface
  • Don't attack the patina with coarse paper — cut back with Scotch-Brite or steel wool (the special-effects catalog says 'sanded', but the schedules use Scotch-Brite/steel wool)
  • Don't topcoat before it is fully dry
  • Don't pile it on — more material doesn't give a better effect
Special effects

'Blur' (enamel → patina → blur with S10 at low gun pressure → ATL20 UM) names CQS 21–26, not the CQS2 base colour.catalog
