CQS23
CQS23 Solvent-based patina, Antique Walnut ("Old Walnut")
Solvent-based patina for an antiqued look on interior furniture and wood items. Sprayed in a single coat over PU and acrylic primers (official) or enamel (dealer); the excess is rubbed back by hand with Scotch-Brite or steel wool so colour stays in pores, recesses, edges and mouldings. Fast-drying, very low consumption, wipes back easily.
- antiquing furniture and doors (classic / Provence styles)
- open-pore oak — colouring the pores
- decapé effect over enamel
- patinating PU-foam mouldings and décor
- "wash-out" effect (patina blurred with S10)
- restoration work

Mixing matrix
- % by weight: 100–200 %official% by volume: 100–200 %official
Standard dilution per the official product page.
S10: SG 0.790, fast (official); dealer says S10 gives faster drying and a harder surface. S2000: dedicated patina thinner, high evaporation rate, low aggression; dealer says with it the patina dries slightly slower than with S10 but sands/rubs back more easily. Dealer: "dilute 1–2 times with solvent".
- % by weight: 100–300 %catalog
The 2025–2026 catalogue gives 100–300 % (weight/volume basis not stated).
- % by weight: 100–200 %dealer% by volume: 100–200 %dealer
Dealer variant on t-colormarket.ru (S13 in place of S10).
S13 is a PE lacquer/stain thinner, SG 0.835, fast. Thinned with S13 the patina is harder to rub off.

When you want the patina to rub back more easily (busy profiles, softer effect).

Gun at 15–20 cm, even passes, no runs; push it into mouldings and pores. Stir before use — the pigment settles.

Brush
- Why ru
- В каталоге по реставрации CQS указан для ручного патинирования; кисть — вариант со страницы методов для мелких/ремонтных работ. Официального расхода при нанесении кистью нет.
Small areas and restoration: brush it on, then wipe back.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Officially over PU and acrylic primers; dealer and special-effects catalogue also over enamel. Oak (acrylic): ATS20 primer or APL20 enamel, 1.5 h at 30–35 °C; belt-sand P240–P320 and pads K60–K80 (open-pore) / K120 (decapé, before the enamel). PU foam: PPS20040 primer → K120 pads → PPL20 enamel, 4 h at 20–25 °C, patina straight onto the enamel.schedule
- Goes over
- ATS20 (open-pore oak) / APL20 RAL/NCS (decapé) / PPL20 RAL/NCS (PU foam) / APL RAL over APS20106 (Размытие) / RAL enamel over PPS20 / PPS400XX (Шебби-шик, Камень, ППУ/полистоун) / ATL20 SM over APL800XX (Металлизированная эмаль)
- Sanding
- Rub back the excess with Scotch-Brite (07448 S UFN — oak/decapé) or No. 2 steel wool (PU foam) after 5–10 min. For the shabby-chic effect, selectively sand through with coarse abrasive after the patina to expose the primer layers.schedule

- Don'ts
- Never leave patina without a clear topcoat — the pigment is not bound.
- Do not overload the spray: excess patina rubs back badly and smears.
- Do not wait too long to rub back — do it at 5–10 min; if it comes off hard, thin with ethyl alcohol next time (S13 makes it harder to remove).
- Not for exterior use (dealer/restoration catalogue: interior items).

Safety: Flammable: organic-solvent based (S10/S2000/S13). Spray in a ventilated booth with an A-filter respirator; keep away from ignition sources. (No SDS published by the manufacturer.)
