CQS22 Patina, Light Walnut

Solvent-borne light-walnut patina for antiqued and decapé effects. Sprayed as a single coat over a PU or acrylic primer or enamel; after 5–10 minutes you knock the excess back with a Scotch-Brite pad or steel wool so the colour stays in the pores, recesses and on the edges. Dries fast, wipes back easily by hand, very low consumption. Must be locked in under a clear lacquer.

  • Antiquing furniture and interior wood items
  • Decapé (limed-look) effect on open-pore oak kitchen doors
  • Glazing raised-panel and carved doors over enamel
  • Finishing PU foam mouldings, décor and picture frames
  • 'Blur' special effect (patina softened with S10)
  • Mixing with other CQS patinas or layering one over another for complex tones

Mixing matrix

  • S10 / S2000Thinner
    % by weight: 100–200 (typ. 150) %official% by volume: 100–200 %official

Standard let-down per the official product page.

Per the dealer description: S10 gives fast drying and a harder film; S2000 (the dedicated patina thinner) dries a touch slower but the coat sands back more easily.

  • S2000 / S13Thinner
    % by weight: 100–200 %dealer% by volume: 100–200 %dealer

    Dealer's variant (S13 listed instead of S10).

S13 is a fast thinner (catalog: stains, patinas, PE primers, PU/acrylic/UV); the dealer labels it 'thinner for PE'. Thinned with S13 the patina is harder to wipe back; with ethanol, easier.

  • S10 / S2000Thinner
    % by weight: 100–300 %catalog

Catalog allows up to 300 % for a lighter, more transparent tone.

  • S10Thinner
    % by weight: 100 %schedule

Finishing schedules: PU foam items; open-pore oak doors (acrylic); oak doors with decapé effect (acrylic).

  • ethanolThinner

When you want the patina to wipe back as easily as possible.

Dealer: thinning with ethanol makes it wipe off easier. No ratio given — stay in the same 100–200 % window.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Recoat

Sanding between coats
No sanding of the patina itself — knock back with Scotch-Brite 07448 / S UFN (oak schedules) or steel wool No 2 (PU foam schedule). Shabby-chic variant (special-effects catalog): selective sand-through with coarse abrasive.schedule

20–25 cm off the work, fast passes, a light wet-to-dry mist; overlap into profiles and recesses. Don't flood it — whatever you put on extra you just have to scrub back off.

Conventional spray

For the 'Blur' effect, mist S10 over the patina at low pressure.

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Consumption

Not recommended on airless — too much material, floods the profiles.

Cloth or pad

Consumption

Catalog: 'spray + rub', 80–100 g/m² — spray on, then rub/wipe back with cloth or Scotch-Brite. Not a cloth-only application.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Official: over PU or acrylic primers. Dealer adds enamel; special-effects catalog: enamel or clear primer. Schedules: primer/enamel dried 4 h (PU, 20–25 °C) or 1.5 h (acrylic, 30–35 °C), sanded (K120 / P240–P320 + K60–K80) before patina.official

Don'ts
  • Never leave patina without a clear lacquer — it is not a topcoat
  • Don't spray it over uncured or unsanded primer/enamel
  • Don't lay it on heavy — over 80–100 g/m² just makes wipe-back harder
  • Don't wait too long before wiping back: thinned with S10/S13 it grabs fast
