CQS9
CQS9 Patina, black (solvent-borne)
Solvent-borne black patina — the highest-contrast colour of the series: over white/light enamel it gives a crisp aged look, on oak it blackens the pores (black decapé). CQS colours can be intermixed (dealer) and layered one over another. Sprayed over PU or acrylic primers/enamels; after a short flash the excess is wiped back by hand with a Scotch-Brite pad or steel wool so the colour stays in the pores, profile recesses and on edges, giving an aged / decapé look. Fast-drying, easy to wipe back, very low consumption. Must be top-coated with a clear lacquer.
- Ageing (patinating) indoor furniture and wooden items
- Decapé effect on open-pore oak (black left in the pores)
- Solid-wood and veneered doors, raised-panel and carved surfaces over enamel
- Picture-frame mouldings, hardware, decorative items
- Patina over enamel on profiled cabinet doors
- Finishing PU foam / polyurethane and polystone mouldings
- Special effects: 'stone' (CQS/CTU + S10 dripped); for 'wash-out' and 'shabby chic' the catalog specifies CQS 21–26, not CQS9

Mixing matrix
- % by weight: 100–200 %official% by volume: 100–200 %official
Standard reduction for spraying (official page and dealer).
Dealer (CQS9): reduce 1–2 times with thinner. S10 (polyester thinner) dries faster and harder but wipes back with more effort; S2000 (patina thinner) dries a little slower and wipes/sands back more easily.
Wider range per the 2025–2026 catalog — for a more transparent, lighter patina.
Catalog gives 100–300 % without stating weight or volume basis.
- S10Thinner
t-color.ru schedules: decapé oak (acrylic), open-pore oak doors (acrylic), PU-foam items (PU).
1:1 with S10; 80–100 g/m² (decapé and PU-foam schedules; the open-pore schedule gives no consumption). Flash 5 min (oak) / 5–10 min (PU foam) at 20–25 °C.
- ethanolThinner
When the patina must wipe back more easily (subtle patina, large hand-wiped areas).
Dealer: reduced with ethyl alcohol the patina wipes off more easily, with S10 it is harder to remove. No ratio given — start at the same 100–200 %.
- S10Thinner
'Wash-out' effect: neat S10 is sprayed at low pressure over fresh CQS patina (21–26) so it runs and blurs.
Also the 'stone' effect: CQS/CTU and S10 are spattered as drops at minimum pressure. No ratios given.

Officially 'spray + rub': after spraying the patina is rubbed / wiped back by hand with Scotch-Brite or steel wool.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Officially: over PU and acrylic primers (and enamels). Schedules: on oak — APL20 enamel over APS20 (decapé) or ATS20 clear primer (open-pore), sanded P240–P320 + K120 pads (decapé) / K60–K80 pads (open-pore); on PU foam — PPL20 enamel (after 4 h, no intermediate sanding) over PPS20040 primer sanded with K120 pads. In the metallic-enamel effect — over an intermediate coat of ATL20 SM lacquer.schedule
- Sanding
- Schedules remove the excess by rubbing: Scotch-Brite 07448 / S UFN (oak), No.2 steel wool (PU foam). The special-effects catalog phrases this as "sanded after drying"; the dealer notes S2000 makes it easier to sand/wipe back. For shabby chic, selective sand-through with coarse abrasive after the patina.schedule
- Temperature and humidity
- 20–25 °C for application and flash (schedules).schedule
- Don'ts
- Don't leave the patina without a clear lacquer — it is not a topcoat.
- Don't apply over uncured enamel/primer — it grabs everywhere and won't wipe back (schedules cure the enamel 1.5 h at 30–35 °C or 4 h at 20–25 °C).
- Don't wait too long before wiping back: past ~10 min it gets harder, especially when reduced with S10.
- Don't flood it — 80–100 g/m² is already the reduced wet amount.
