CQS44001

CQS44001 Patina, Copper (metallic)

Solvent-borne metallic copper patina for antique, decapé and grain-highlight effects. Leaves a copper shimmer in pores, recesses and on edges. Sprayed as one light coat over PU or acrylic primer or enamel; after 5–10 min the excess is cut back with Scotch-Brite or steel wool. Fast drying, easy to wipe back by hand, very low consumption. Must be locked in with a clear lacquer.

  • Antique / decapé effect on furniture (interior only)
  • Patinating raised-panel and carved doors over enamel
  • Copper shimmer in the pores of solid wood and veneer over sealer
  • Ageing APL800XX metallic enamels (copper, brass, iron)
  • Desert Rose effect over HTL10001 'Frost' special effect
  • Mouldings, fittings, decorative items, PU-foam mouldings

The official page lists S10 only; the dealer table lists S10/S2000. S10 dries faster and gives a harder layer; S2000 dries a bit slower but wipes/sands back more easily.

Stir before reducing and keep stirring while you work — metallic pigment settles. One light even coat, don't let it pool in recesses, 15–20 cm off the work. After 5–10 min cut back with Scotch-Brite (dealer: K600; decapé schedule: 07448 S UFN) or #2 steel wool (PU-foam schedule), leaving copper in pores, on edges and in the carving.

Not listed by Technocolor; production option — use a coarse (100–150 µm) filter so the metallic flake isn't stripped out.

Wipe-back

Catalog pictograms are '[Spray] + [Rub]': the patina is sprayed (80–100 g/m²) and then rubbed/cut back by hand with Scotch-Brite or steel wool. Rag application as a standalone method is not listed by Technocolor.

Don'ts
  • Never leave it without a clear topcoat — lacquer is what fixes it
  • Don't lay it on heavy: one light 80–100 g/m² coat
  • Don't wait too long to cut back — after ~10 min it gets harder to remove
  • Not for exterior work — interior only
