S11

S11 Polyester (PE) thinner

Technocolor medium-evaporation thinner for polyester (PE) materials. Clear, colourless, specific gravity 0.81 ± 0.01. The catalog lists it for polyester gloss lacquers; the official product pages give it as the alternative to the fast S10 in PE primers ETS20, EPS22, LRA52, LRR16, LRA923 and the ETL200 lacquer. The finishing schedules also use it in the VTL30040 spray UV lacquer.

  • Polyester gloss lacquers
  • PE primers ETS20, EPS22, LRA52, LRR16, LRA923 — 10–15 %
  • PE lacquer ETL200 — 10–15 % (official/dealer)
  • VTL30040 UV spray lacquer for mouldings — 20 %

    ETS20 clear PE primer (official mix: EC1/EC2 2 %, EA1 2 %).

The t-colormarket.ru dealer lists S13 'PE thinner' (10–15 wt / 15–20 vol %) for this primer instead of S10/S11.

  • S11Thinner

    EPS22 white general-purpose PE primer.

Volume % is higher for EPS22 (20–30 %) because the pigmented base is much denser than the thinner (S11 is 0.81 g/cm³). The t-colormarket.ru dealer lists S13 'PE thinner' (10–15 wt / 15–20 vol %) for this primer instead of S10/S11.

    The dealer's ETL200 component table lists only S10 / S11.

Dealer: pot life, gel time and drying are adjusted via EC1/EA1 percentages, not the thinner.

    Schedule 'Gloss MDF bathroom fronts (PE+PU)': EPS20 100 + EA1 2 + EC1 2 + S10 (S11) 15, 250 g/m², two coats, 30 min at 30–35 °C after each, then 12 h at 20–25 °C.

Note: the official EPS20 page lists S10/S30; S11 appears only in this schedule (as the S10 alternative).

    % by weight: 15 %schedule

    Schedule 'Solid-oak coffin finishing (PE)': ETS50 100 + EC1 2 + EA1 2 + S10/S11 15, 250 g/m², twin-intake airless, automatic spraying in a one-manipulator booth; 30–40 min at 20 °C between coats, 8–12 h after the second.

ETS50 has no official product page; the code comes only from this schedule.

  • S11Thinner
    % by weight: 20 %schedule

    Schedule 'Mouldings and picture frames (UV)': VTL30040 100 + S11 20, 150 g/m², flash 5–10 min at 30–35 °C to drive off the thinner, then UV cure 3 × 80–120 W lamps at 10 m/min.

The only official use of S11 outside polyester. The thinner must flash off fully before UV cure or you get bubbles and under-cure. The VTL30040 product page names no thinner. The schedule lays 150 g/m² (thinned); the product page gives 110–130 g/m².

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

S11 is not sprayed on its own — this is guidance for PE primers reduced with S11. S11 goes into part A; accelerator and catalyst are added separately, stirring after each, and never mixed with each other directly. Catalysed pot life is 20 min – 1.5 h (ETS20, ETL200) or 20 min – 3 h (EPS22, EPS20) per the dealer, so mix small batches.

Why S11 over S10: S11 is medium-evaporation (catalog), so the film levels out before it gels — what you want for mirror gloss. S10 is fast — better for primers and cold shops.

Airless

Nozzle
0.28–0.33 mmrecommended
Pressure · fluid
120–180 barrecommended

'Airless with 2 intakes' in the schedule means a plural-component rig: PE accelerator and catalyst must never meet directly, so they are fed separately. S11 goes into the A-side.

Choose vs S10
S10 is fast with high thinning power: PE primers, cold shops, verticals. S11 is medium: PE gloss lacquer, large flat panels, warm shops (above ~25 °C) where S10 leaves orange peel and dry spray.recommended
Temperature and humidity
Schedules using PE thinned with S10/S11: MDF fronts (EPS20) — 30 min at 30–35 °C after each coat, then 12 h at 20–25 °C; coffins (ETS50) — 30–40 min at 20 °C between coats, 8–12 h after the second. VTL30040 UV lacquer with S11 — 5–10 min flash at 30–35 °C before UV.schedule
Don'ts
  • Don't exceed 15 % in PE primers/lacquers (official maximum) — you lose film build and get more shrink-back into the pores.
  • Don't use S11 in PU or acrylic — use S30/S31/S50/S70/S80 (catalog lists S11 for polyester only).
  • Never mix EA1 accelerator straight into EC1/EC2 catalyst — stir one into the base first, then the other.
  • Let S11 flash off completely (5–10 min at 30–35 °C) before UV-curing VTL30040.

Not covered by the sources
  • Solvent composition / flash point / boiling range — not published
  • Exact evaporation rate (relative to n-butyl acetate) — catalog says only 'medium'
  • No TDS or SDS PDF found (web search budget exhausted in this session; none in local PDFs)
  • Packaging sizes and shelf life — not published
  • Whether S11 is approved for EPS20 outside the MDF schedule (official EPS20 page lists S10/S30 only)
  • ETS50 (schedule-only code) has no official page
  • Thinner ratio for VTL30040 is only from the UV schedule (20 %); product page gives none
  • No dealer page: S11 is not sold at t-colormarket.ru (search finds no product; /catalog/razbaviteli_1/s11/ and the stale /catalog/lkm/razbaviteli/s11/ link on the ETL200 page both 404). The dealer's PE primer pages (ETS20, EPS22, EPS20) now name S13 'Разбавитель для ПЭ' instead — possibly S11 superseded; unconfirmed by the manufacturer.
  • ETL200 solids conflict: catalog 99 %, dealer 96 ± 1 %.
