LRR16
LRR16 White polyester (PE) primer
White unsaturated-polyester (PE) primer made by MILESI, sold in the Technocolor range. Three-part system: base + LOB828/LOB6AA1 accelerator 2 % + LOB810 hardener (or slow LOB5) 2 %, thinned 10 % with S10/S11. High resistance to shrinkage, good hiding power, and it can be hand-sanded. Sprayed at about 200 g/m² per pass. Used as a white primer under pigmented enamels; the special-effects catalogue lists it as the primer in the 'Mosaic' system.
- White primer under pigmented RAL/NCS enamels on MDF and timber — spray 200 g/m² (rate is official; 'under enamel' role is from the special-effects catalog / derived)
- Primer in the 'Mosaic' special-effect system: LQA836 → LRR16 → RAL enamel → XGC32 waterborne lacquer → TSE014-05 crackle → LDA401 clear
- Work where long-term primer shrink-back must be minimal and hand sanding is needed (official: 'high shrink resistance… can be hand-sanded')

always; stir into the base FIRST, mix thoroughly
Official page lists both codes with '/', i.e. either one; Technocolor does not explain the difference. Order of addition is derived (standard PE practice).

S10 — fast; catalog lists it for polyester primers (p.19). S11 — medium evaporation; catalog lists it for polyester gloss lacquers; for LRR16 use it in hot shops / big flat panels (derived)
Add after the accelerator, before the hardener. S10 SG 0.790, also fine as gun wash (official S10); S11 SG 0.81 (official S11). Thinner doesn't change cure time.

slow: cold shop, heavy builds, or when you need longer pot life
Dealer: slow cure, even through-cure of the whole film; suits low application temperatures and heavy coats; used to extend pot life.

Application
Conventional spray
- Consumption
- 200 g/m²official
- Nozzle
- 2.0–2.5 mm gravity cup (1.8 mm only at the full 10 % thinner and lighter passes); pressure-pot 1.5–1.8 mmrecommended
- Pressure · air
- 2.5–3.5 bar at the gun inlet, trigger pulled (conventional); HVLP: 2.0–2.5 bar inlet, ≤ 0.7 bar at the caprecommended
- Pressure · fluid
- pressure pot 1.0–2.0 barrecommended
- Spray viscosity
- ≈ 30–45 s DIN4 after 10 % thinner (approx.)recommended
- Wet film
- ≈ 130–150 µm per 200 g/m² coatrecommended
- Coats
- 1–2 coats of 200 g/m², wet-on-wet same dayrecommended
- Flash-off
- 30schedule
- Recoat
- next PE coat within ~30–60 min (before full gel); topcoat only after sandingrecommended
- Sanding between coats
- no sanding between wet-on-wet PE coats; sand only the final buildrecommended
Mix small batches — pot life is roughly 20–40 min. Flush the gun right after (S10). Never leave catalysed mix in the gun or hoses.
HVLP
- Consumption
- 200 g/m²official
- Nozzle
- 2.0–2.5 mmrecommended
- Pressure · air
- inlet 2.0–2.5 bar (trigger pulled), cap ≤ 0.7 bar, fan open, 12–15 CFMrecommended
- Spray viscosity
- thin the full 10 %recommended
Gun 15–20 cm off the work, 50 % overlap. Some orange peel is fine — it all gets sanded.
Airmix (air-assisted airless)
- Nozzle
- tip 0.015–0.018" (0.38–0.46 mm), 40–50° fanrecommended
- Pressure · fluid
- 60–100 barrecommended
- Pressure · air
- 1–2 barofficial
Only with a 2K proportioning rig or by running small batches fast — short PE pot life; catalysed mix must never sit in the pump/hoses.
Airless
- Nozzle
- tip 0.017–0.021" (0.43–0.53 mm)recommended
- Pressure · fluid
- 120–180 barrecommended
Same caveat as airmix — 2K rig or small fast batches. Good for big flat panels.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Sand MDF/timber P150–P220 (pads K60–K80), de-dust. Seal porous timber and MDF edges first (LQA836 in the Mosaic system).recommended
- Goes over
- LQA836 / bare MDF (sanded) / bare timber (sanded, sealed)
- Goes under
- RAL/NCS pigmented enamels (PU/acrylic)
- Sanding
- after ≥ 12 h at 20 °C: P240 → P280 → P320, then pads K150–K180; can be hand-sandedrecommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 18–25 °C shop, material and parts ≥ 18 °C; RH ≤ 70 %. Below ~15 °C use LOB5 and expect slow cure.recommended
- Don'ts
- NEVER mix the hardener (LOB810/LOB5) directly with the accelerator (LOB828/LOB6AA1) — violent reaction, can catch fire. Order: base + accelerator → stir → thinner → hardener
- don't go past 10 % thinner without reason — less build, more shrink risk
- don't leave catalysed mix in the gun or hoses
- don't sand before it's hard — paper clogs
- don't spray in a cold shop (< 15 °C) with LOB810
Storage
- Shelf life
- ≈ 6 months unopened, cool and darkrecommended
- Storage temperature
- +5…+25 °C, away from heat and sun; keep peroxide hardener away from acceleratorrecommended
Safety: Contains styrene (flammable, harmful vapour) — spray booth, organic-vapour respirator, gloves, goggles. Store the peroxide hardener away from the accelerator. Leftover mix gets hot — let it cure out in the open before binning.
