LOB828

LOB828 Accelerator for polyester (PE) materials (MILESI)

Cure accelerator for MILESI polyester materials. Goes into the LRA52, LRA923, LRA98 and LRR16 PE primers at 2 % by weight (2 % by volume), stirred into the base (standard PE practice: first and thoroughly — the official pages don't state an order), then add the LOB810 hardener (LRR16: LOB5 also allowed) at 2 % and S10/S11 thinner at 10 %. In LRA52, LRA923 and LRR16 it can be swapped for the LOB6AA1 accelerator; LRA98 officially takes LOB828 only.

  • accelerating the cure of the clear PE primers LRA52, LRA923, LRA98
  • accelerating the cure of the white PE primer LRR16
  • the only accelerator listed for LRA98

  • LOB810Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Standard peroxide hardener — always paired with LOB828 in all four primers.

NEVER pour LOB828 and LOB810 straight into each other — add each to the base in turn and stir in between.

  • LOB5Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

LRR16 only: the slow hardener instead of LOB810 — cold shop, heavy builds, longer pot life. LOB828 stays at 2 %.

Dealer: slow cure, even through-cure of the whole film.

  • LOB6AA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

    Interchangeable with LOB828 in LRA52, LRA923, LRR16 (officially "LOB828/LOB6AA1"). LRA98: LOB828 only.

Technocolor doesn't say how LOB828 differs from LOB6AA1 (metal content, reactivity, colour). Don't put both in one batch — that's a double dose.

  • S10 / S11Thinner
    % by weight: 10 %official% by volume: 10 %official

S10 fast, the PE primer standard; S11 medium evaporation (hot shop, big panels). LRA98 lists S10 only.

Thinner doesn't replace the accelerator or change its dose — LOB828 is calculated on the base, not on the thinned mix.

  • EA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %catalog

    Technocolor's own-brand counterpart to LOB828: ETS20/EPS20/EPS22/ETL200 + EC1/EC2 2 % + EA1 2 %. Not officially listed for the Milesi LRA/LRR primers.

    Don't cross the systems: Milesi base + LOB828 + LOB810; Technocolor base + EA1 + EC1/EC2. Interchangeability is not confirmed.

  • EA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %schedule

Official schedule "Gloss MDF bathroom fronts (PE+PU)" — shows the typical regime for a PE system with 2 % accelerator (uses EA1, not LOB828).

LOB828 does not appear in any official finishing schedule.

  • EA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %schedule

Official schedule "Solid oak coffins (PE, clear, gloss)": accelerated PE primer sprayed airless with twin intakes (accelerated base and catalyst fed separately).

Analogy for LOB828: on twin-feed kit the accelerator is pre-mixed into the base and the hardener is fed separately.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Characteristics

Solids
n/a — reactive additive; Technocolor's solids figure applies to the coating (part A)recommended
Density
not published (cobalt accelerator solutions ≈0.9–1.0 g/cm³)recommended
Pot life
0.33–0.5 hrecommended
Drying · Conditions
20 °C; times belong to the mixed primer, not to the accelerator
Dose effect
Fixed 2 % — less gives slow/soft cure and styrene smell, more shortens pot life, can yellow/darken clear primers and makes the film brittlerecommended
Temperature sensitivity
strong — below ~15 °C the PE cure stalls, above ~25 °C pot life collapsesrecommended

Application

Conventional spray

Nozzle

Pressure · air
2.5–3.5recommended
Consumption
150–200 (LRA52, LRA923); 150 (LRA98); 200 (LRR16) g/m²official
Flash-off
30–40schedule

LOB828 itself isn't sprayed — it's stirred into the base. Flush gun and hoses with S10 straight after use: catalysed PE gels inside the kit.

HVLP

Nozzle
1.8–2 (typ. 1.9)recommended
Pressure · air
2–2.5recommended

Short pot life (~20–30 min) — mix in batches you can spray in one go.

Airless

Nozzle
0.33–0.43 mm (tip 013–017 thou)recommended
Pressure · fluid
100–150recommended
Consumption
250 g/m²schedule

On twin-feed kit, pre-mix LOB828 into the base (2 %) and meter LOB810 at 2 %. Don't run catalysed PE through a single-feed pump — it'll set in the system.

Process and compatibility

Order of addition
base → LOB828 (stir well) → S10/S11 → LOB810/LOB5 (stir) → strain → sprayrecommended
Temperature and humidity
18–25 °C, RH 50–75 %; materials and workpiece at room temperaturerecommended
Don'ts
  • never pour LOB828 and LOB810/LOB5 straight into each other — violent reaction, fire risk
  • don't store accelerator and hardener side by side or share measuring cups
  • don't go over 2 % — shorter pot life and clear primers can yellow
  • don't add LOB828 and LOB6AA1 together
  • don't use LOB6AA1 instead of LOB828 in LRA98 — not officially listed
  • don't cross systems: Milesi primers take LOB828/LOB810, Technocolor PE takes EA1/EC1/EC2

Storage

Shelf life
not published (cobalt accelerators typically 12 months in sealed original packaging)recommended
Storage temperature
5–25 °C, dry, away from heat, sunlight and especially from peroxide hardenersrecommended
Packaging

Safety: Flammable liquid (solvent/styrene); cobalt salts are a possible sensitiser and carcinogen (H317/H351 on typical cobalt accelerators). Wear gloves, goggles and an organic-vapour respirator. Store apart from the LOB810/LOB5 peroxide hardeners and never let them touch. Confirm against the SDS.
