EA1
EA1 Accelerator for polyester (PE) materials
Accelerator (part of the cure system) for Technocolor polyester primers and lacquers — ETS20, EPS20, EPS22, ETL200 (and ETS50 in an official schedule). Works with the peroxide hardener EC1 (standard) or EC2 (slow): PE materials cure by reaction with the peroxide assisted by metal (cobalt) salts and will not cure at room temperature without the accelerator. Standard dose 2 % by weight on the base. The new EA1* formula (per dealer) is more reactive: faster hardness build, full through-cure in thick films, no residual styrene smell, a fuller-looking film that is ready to sand sooner with less shrinkage — at the cost of roughly 10–15 % shorter pot life than the old EA1.
- Cure accelerator for ETS20, EPS20, EPS22 PE primers and ETL200 PE lacquer — 2 % by weight
- ETS50 primer in the solid-oak coffin finishing schedule (twin-intake airless)
- Speed tuning: 1–1.5 % in hot weather (longer pot life), 3 % with EC1 at 3 % for fast cure

Mixing matrix
- ETS20base% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official
Always with ETS20 (clear PE primer): PE won't cure at room temperature without the accelerator.
Official: EA1 2 % by weight / 2 % by volume. Order: EA1 into the base, stir well, then EC1/EC2 hardener at 2 %, then thinner.
- EPS20base% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2.5 %official
Always with EPS20 (white PE primer): PE won't cure at room temperature without the accelerator.
Official: EA1 2 % by weight / 2.5 % by volume. Order: EA1 into the base, stir well, then EC1/EC2 hardener at 2 %, then thinner.
- EPS22base% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 3.3 %official
Always with EPS22 (white PE primer, general-purpose (economy)): PE won't cure at room temperature without the accelerator.
Official: EA1 2 % by weight / 3.3 % by volume. Order: EA1 into the base, stir well, then EC1/EC2 hardener at 2 %, then thinner.
- ETL200base% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official
Always with ETL200 (clear PE high-gloss lacquer, 100 gloss): PE won't cure at room temperature without the accelerator.
Official: EA1 2 % by weight / 2 % by volume. Order: EA1 into the base, stir well, then EC1/EC2 hardener at 2 %, then thinner.
- ETS50base% by weight: 2 %schedule
Schedule 'Coffin finishing (PE, clear, gloss)': two coats of ETS50 primer at 250 g/m², twin-intake airless.
ETS50 has no product page in the local sources — recipe from the schedule only. Schedule: 30–40 min at 20 °C between coats, 8–12 h after the second coat, then sand P360/P400 and topcoat with PTL500 PU lacquer.
- EPS20base% by weight: 2 %schedule
Schedule 'Gloss finishing of MDF bathroom fronts (PE+PU)': two coats of EPS20 at 250 g/m² over PTS71 isolant, 30 min at 30–35 °C between coats, then 12 h at 20–25 °C.
Schedule: after coat 2, 30 min at 30–35 °C + 12 h at 20–25 °C, sand P240–P320 / K150–K180, then PPL200 PU enamel + C200 70 % + S80 40 %, 72 h, polish.
- EA1accelerator_adjust% by weight: 1–1.5 %dealer
Need more pot life — typically in hot weather, 25–35 °C: drop EA1 to 1.5–1 %, catalyse with EC1 at 2 %.
Drying and time-to-sand get longer.
- EA1accelerator_adjust% by weight: 3 %dealer
Need a faster cure (dealer: 'to increase speed, raise EC1 to 3 %, or raise EC1 to 3 % and EA1 to 3 %'). First step is EC1 3 % with EA1 left at 2 %; EA1 3 % only together with EC1 3 %.
Pot life drops sharply — mix small batches.
- EC1Hardener% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2–3 %official
Standard PE hardener; always used together with EA1.
NEVER let EA1 and EC1 meet neat — each goes into the base separately.
- EC2Hardener% by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2–3 %official
Slow hardener: extends pot life of the mix. Dealer specifically recommends it with the new EA1* on medium- and high-pressure rigs (airmix/airless).

Mixing component
- Why ru
EA1 is never applied on its own. Order: stir the PE base, weigh in EA1 (2 % by weight), mix thoroughly; then add EC1 or EC2 (2 %), mix again; then thinner S10/S11 (EPS20: S10/S30; ETL200 also S31/S50) at 10–15 %. Only mix what you can spray in ~20 min at 20 °C. Separate measuring cups/syringes for EA1 and EC1. Note: the dealer now lists thinner S13 (10–15 % by weight / 15–20 % by volume) for ETS20/EPS20/EPS22 instead of the official S10/S11. EA1 has no spray settings of its own (tip/pressure) — take them from the PE base product (ETS20/ETS50/EPS20/ETL200 etc.). The official schedule sprays PE primer with a twin-intake airless rig. Usual PE practice: one pot holds base + EA1, the other base + EC1, mixed 1:1 at the gun so nothing gels in the hoses. For single-pot medium/high-pressure rigs the dealer advises the slow EC2.
Process and compatibility
- Goes with
- ETS20, EPS20, EPS22, ETL200, ETS50
- Partners
- EC1, EC2
- Temperature and humidity
- standard dose 2 % at 20 °C; hot weather 25–35 °C → EA1 down to 1.5–1 % with EC1 2 % (longer pot life); to speed up → EC1 3 %, or EC1 3 % + EA1 3 %dealer
- Don'ts
- Never mix EA1 directly with EC1/EC2 (or any peroxide) — violent reaction, possible fire
- Don't go above 3 % — the mix gels in the cup and the film may crack
- Don't use it in PU, acrylic or NC materials — PE only
- Never pour leftover catalysed mix back into the can
- Why ru
Storage
- Packaging
- 1 Ldealer
- Storage temperature
- +5…+25 °C, tightly closed original container, away from heat and well apart from peroxide hardeners EC1/EC2recommended
Safety: Flammable liquid (metal-salt solution in solvent — estimated; no SDS found). Store away from the peroxide hardeners EC1/EC2, wear gloves and goggles, wash skin with soap and water. Don't bin EA1 rags together with EC1 rags.
