PolyesterPrimer

ETS50

ETS50 Clear polyester (PE) primer / sanding sealer

Clear polyester primer for industrial lines, cured with EC1 peroxide hardener plus EA1 accelerator. Neither Technocolor nor its dealer has a page for it — it appears only in the official 'Solid-oak coffin finishing' schedule, where it is robot-sprayed (one manipulator, twin-intake airless) in two 250 g/m² coats over CIT stain, then sanded and top-coated with PTL500 gloss PU. Going by the recipe it is the production-line (high-pressure plural-component) counterpart of ETS20: heavy build, practically no shrink-back, closes the grain in two passes.

  • closed-pore clear gloss finishing of solid oak (coffins) per the official schedule
  • filler/sanding sealer under PTL500 gloss PU
  • automatic lines / spray robots with twin-intake (plural-component) airless

  • EC1Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %schedule% by volume: 2 %recommended

Standard schedule recipe at 20 °C.

    Schedule: ETS50 100 / EC1 2 / EA1 2 / S10 or S11 15, twin-intake airless.

  • EA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %schedule% by volume: 2 %recommended

Always together with the hardener; on a twin-intake rig the accelerator goes into the base and the hardener is drawn by the second intake.

NEVER combine EA1 and the peroxide hardener directly — violent reaction. Accelerator into the base first, stir, then hardener. The newer EA1* hardens faster but cuts pot life ~10–15 % (dealer).

  • S10 / S11Thinner
    % by weight: 15 %schedule% by volume: 20 %recommended

S10 — fast, the standard PE-primer thinner; S11 — medium, for hot shops and large panels.

Thinner hardly affects PE cure — it only sets viscosity and flow.

  • S10 / S11Thinner
    % by weight: 10–15 %recommended% by volume: 15–20 %recommended

Hand spraying (conventional/HVLP) when maximum build is wanted.

    ETS20 analogue — not published for ETS50.

  • EC2Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %recommended% by volume: 2 %recommended

When you have no twin-intake rig: single-pot premix for airless/airmix, hot shop, large batches.

EC2 is the slow hardener, extends mix pot life (catalog).

  • EA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 1–1.5 %dealer% by volume: 1–1.5 %recommended

Hot shop 25–35 °C — to lengthen pot life.

  • EC1Hardener
    % by weight: 2–3 %recommended% by volume: 2–3 %recommended

When cure must be faster (e.g. a cold shop below ~18 °C).

    Pot life drops sharply.

Sanding between coats
none between the two ETS50 coats; after 8–12 h sand P360, P400 (air sanders) before topcoatschedule

This is the schedule's method. The twin-intake rig keeps base+EA1 and EC1 hardener apart until the gun, so nothing gels in the hose. On a single-pot airless use EC2 and flush immediately after.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Sand solid oak by hand/air sander with abrasive belt P150, P180; dust off; stain with CIT 80–100 g/m², dry 5–10 min at 20 °Cschedule
Sanding
After 8–12 h at 20 °C: P360, P400 with air sanders before the clear PTL500 topcoatschedule
Temperature and humidity
18–25 °C, RH ≤ 75 %; schedule drying chamber at 20 °Crecommended
Don'ts
  • never put EA1 and the peroxide hardener together directly — add each to the base in turn
  • don't premix more than you can spray in ~20 min; on single-pot airless use EC2 only
  • don't leave mixed material in gun or hose — flush at once
  • don't sand before 8 h at 20 °C — paper clogs
  • don't go over a stain without a test panel — PE can shift the stain colour
  • no brush or roller

Storage

Safety: Contains styrene — toxic and flammable. Spray in an extracted booth with an A2 organic-vapour respirator, gloves and goggles. EC1 peroxide is an oxidiser: store apart from EA1 accelerator, never let them touch each other, rags or metal swarf.
