PolyesterPrimer

LRA98

LRA98 Clear polyester primer (sanding sealer)

Three-component clear unsaturated-polyester primer (base + LOB828 accelerator + LOB810 peroxide hardener). High solids, hardness, excellent resistance to shrink-back. Spray applied at 150 g/m². Used as a filling primer under clear closed-pore and high-gloss finishes on veneer and solid wood.

  • clear filling primer for closed-pore finishes on veneer and solid wood
  • build coat under high-gloss PE/PU lacquers (piano gloss, table tops)
  • levelling - one heavy high-solids coat instead of several thin ones

Mixing matrix

  • LOB828Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Always. Without accelerator PE won't cure at room temperature.

Stir into the base FIRST and mix well, only then add the hardener. NEVER pour accelerator and peroxide hardener straight into each other - violent reaction, fire risk. (LRA52/LRA923 also allow LOB6AA1; for LRA98 only LOB828 is listed.)

  • LOB810Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Standard (peroxide) hardener for polyester, default choice.

Dealer: 'LOB810 - hardener for polyester materials', made by MILESI. Add AFTER the accelerator.

  • LOB5Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %recommended% by volume: 2 %recommended

Hot shop, big batches, long time at the gun, heavy coats; per the dealer also for low application temperatures.

Replaces LOB810, not in addition to it. Drying and time to sand get longer. Test panel first.

  • S10Thinner
    % by weight: 10 %official% by volume: 10 %official

Standard thinner. Fast, strong solvency; catalog lists it specifically for PE primers.

Officially 10 % (a single value, no range); don't go beyond - film build drops and pinholes/cratering get likelier. S10 SG 0.790±0.01; also the gun-wash solvent.

  • S11Thinner
    % by weight: 10 %recommended% by volume: 10 %recommended

Hot shop (above ~25 °C) or big flat panels, when S10 flashes too fast to flow out.

Slower - more dust pick-up and sag risk on verticals. S11 SG 0.81±0.01.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Flush the gun with S10 straight after spraying, well inside pot life - gelled PE won't come out of the passages. Strain at 125–190 µm. On verticals don't overload the coat (not thixotropic).

Don'ts
  • Never mix the LOB828 accelerator and LOB810 hardener directly together - fire hazard
  • Don't exceed 10 % thinner
  • Don't spray below 15 °C
  • Don't topcoat without sanding (wax layer)
  • Don't leave the mix in the gun/pump - it gels in 20–30 min
  • Don't spray over oily timbers without an isolating coat

Storage

Storage temperature
5–25 °Crecommended

Safety: Contains styrene (flammable, harmful by inhalation) - spray in a booth with extraction, A2 respirator and gloves. Peroxide hardener is an oxidiser: keep away from the accelerator, metals and ignition sources, store in original containers, never pour spills back. Don't dump leftover mixed material into a waste drum - it exotherms as it cures.
