PolyesterSealer

LRA923

LRA923 high-clarity polyester (PE) sealer/primer

Clear unsaturated-polyester (PE) sealer with very high clarity. Chemically cured with the LOB810 peroxide hardener plus LOB828 or LOB6AA1 accelerator. Per the manufacturer it is more transparent and more flexible than the other PE primers in the range. Builds a thick, practically non-shrinking film for clear closed-pore and high-gloss finishes.

  • clear closed-pore finishes on solid wood and veneer where the colour of the wood or stain must stay clean
  • build coat under high-gloss PU or PE topcoats (tables, doors, carcasses)
  • a clear PE sealer where you need more flex than standard PE primers give (solid wood, veneer on moving substrates)

Mixing matrix

  • LOB828Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Standard accelerator. Add it first and stir it fully into the base before the hardener goes in.

Never let accelerator and hardener touch each other directly — always go through the base (peroxide + cobalt salt reacts violently, can ignite).

  • LOB6AA1Accelerator
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Alternative to LOB828 (listed as LOB828/LOB6AA1). Use one or the other, not both.

Technocolor does not say how LOB6AA1 differs from LOB828.

  • LOB810Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %official% by volume: 2 %official

Standard peroxide hardener for PE (dealer: 'hardener for polyester materials', MILESI). Goes in after the accelerator.

In PE the hardener is an initiator, not a stoichiometric partner: don't add extra 'for speed' — you get a brittle, over-heated film and a shorter pot life.

  • LOB5Hardener
    % by weight: 2 %recommended

Only if you need longer pot life, a cool shop or a heavy coat. Not officially listed for LRA923 — run a test panel first.

  • S10Thinner
    % by weight: 10 %official% by volume: 10 %official

Fast thinner with strong solvency — the default for PE primers; also used to flush the gun.

  • S11Thinner
    % by weight: 10 %official% by volume: 10 %official

Medium evaporation — for hot shops (above ~25 °C) and big flat panels so the coat flows out and doesn't solvent-pop.

Mix only what you'll spray in 15–20 min — it gels in the cup. Flush the gun with S10 straight away; cured PE won't come out.

Don'ts
  • never mix accelerator and hardener directly
  • don't exceed 2 % hardener and 2 % accelerator
  • don't spray below 15–18 °C
  • don't put PE over oils, waxes, nitro products or oily species (teak, rosewood) without an isolating coat — they inhibit the cure
  • don't leave mixed material in the gun or lines past the pot life

Safety: Flammable (styrene and solvents). LOB810 is an organic peroxide (oxidiser, corrosive to eyes); the accelerator is a metal salt. Store and measure them separately with their own measures. Spray in a booth, wear an A2 organic-vapour respirator, gloves and goggles. Soak peroxide rags in water before disposal.
