LNB20 hardener for polyurethane coatings

Milesi isocyanate hardener for two-pack polyurethane coatings. The dealer describes it as a 'hardener for PU primers and matt lacquers', the second component of PU materials, 'for use with the LBA and LGA series'. On the official Technocolor site it appears only as the hardener for the tinting-system converters: KGA1 (clear, 20 gloss) and KKR1 (white, 20 gloss) as the alternative to LNB77, and as the only hardener for LKR6AB16 (white PU converter, 10 gloss). Always 50 % by weight on the base. Compared with LNB77 it hard-dries faster (10–12 h instead of 12–18 h) and, per the Milesi TDS, holds its colour better — which is why it's the pick for whites and pale tints.

  • second component of the KGA1 clear converter (20 gloss) — 50 % by weight
  • second component of the KKR1 white converter (20 gloss) — 50 % by weight
  • the only hardener for the LKR6AB16 white PU converter (10 gloss) — 50 % by weight
  • per the dealer — LBA-series PU primers and LGA-series PU lacquers (the official LBA/LGA pages do not list LNB20 — check with Technocolor first)

Clear 20-gloss converter — for pale and white tints where yellowing matters; faster than LNB77 (hard dry 12 h vs 18 h).

  • KKR1base

    White 20-gloss converter — alternative to LNB77; a bit faster (hard dry 10 h), sheen ~22.

White 10-gloss PU converter — the only listed hardener, always.

Only after checking with Technocolor: the official LBA/LGA pages list LNB77/LNB42/LNB5/LNB6/LNB21, not LNB20.

Weigh the hardener in at exactly 50 %, stir, then thin with LZC8643 and let it stand 5–10 min. The mix lives 3 h — only mix what you'll spray.

Process and compatibility

apply 15–30 °C, optimum 18–22 °C at 65–70 % RH; do not dry below 15 °C; RH during drying 50–70 %datasheet
Don'ts
  • don't eyeball it — weigh it, 50 %
  • don't leave the can open: isocyanate reacts with air moisture, goes cloudy and thickens
  • don't use hardener that has gone cloudy or thick
  • don't mix with other hardener families (PC/AC), and don't swap it in for the listed LBA/LGA hardeners (LNB77/LNB42/LNB5/LNB6/LNB21) without Technocolor's OK
  • don't use the mix past its 3 h pot life
  • don't spray below 15 °C

Safety: Solvent-borne isocyanate hardener: highly flammable, isocyanate vapour/mist is a respiratory sensitiser. Spray booth, A2/P2 respirator or air-fed mask, nitrile gloves, goggles, spark-proof equipment, no smoking. See the LNB20 SDS.
