VTS20088

VTS20088 UV-cure adhesion primer, clear

Clear UV-curing adhesion primer. Bonds to a wide range of substrates — above all melamine paper and laminate, where ordinary primers won't key. Sandable. Viscosity is set so smooth rollers can lay thin films down to 10 g/m². Apply by roller coater (8–12 g/m²) or spray (60–80 g/m²). 100 % solids as supplied. Thinner S30 0–30 % (usually none on rollers; the top of the range for spraying).

  • Tie-coat on melamine (décor) paper, laminate and HPL/CPL before UV primers and lacquers
  • Thin first coat on difficult substrates on a UV roller line (flat panels)
  • Spray application on parts that can't go through a roller coater
  • Bridging coat where the next UV material won't key to the substrate

Single-component product: no mixing needed — use as supplied (see application below).

Mixing matrix

  • S30Thinner

Usually 0 % on rollers — used as supplied. For spraying, 20–30 % S30 to working viscosity.

All solvent must leave before the UV lamps (5–10 min flash at 30–35 °C), or you get blisters and under-cure. No hardener.

  • S31Thinner

Spray only, in a hot shop (above ~25 °C) when S30 gives dry spray.

Lengthen the flash-off before the lamp to 10 min.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Application

Roller coater (UV)

Roller
smooth applicator roller (chrome or smooth rubber)recommended
Flash-off

Recoat
straight after gel cure (1 lamp, 10 m/min) with the next UV primer/fillerrecommended
Sanding between coats
do not sand — an 8–12 g/m² film cuts through to the paper/laminate easilyrecommended

Flat parts only. Material and panels at 20–30 °C.

HVLP

Recoat
after UV curerecommended
Sanding between coats
after UV cure, if needed, a light sand at P320–P400 or a grey pad without cutting through (officially sandable)recommended

Gun distance 15–20 cm, 50 % overlap, light even coat — no runs. UV cure after flash-off.

Conventional spray

Transfer efficiency up to 40 % (methods page).

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Best spray option on a line: thin even coat, little overspray.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Melamine/laminate: degrease (alcohol/silicone remover), scuff with P280–P320 or a grey pad if needed, de-dust. Wood/veneer: sand P150–P220, de-dust.recommended
Goes over

Goes over: basis

Goes under: basis
derived — UV primers/fillers/lacquers of the same range named in the official UV schedules and 2022 catalog; no official schedule names VTS20088
Sanding
Don't sand the 8–12 g/m² roller film (too thin). The sprayed coat (60–80 g/m²) is sandable (official) — lightly, P320–P400. Sand the next UV primer after full cure: P240, P280, P320.recommended
Temperature and humidity
Material and parts 20–30 °C, RH ≤ 70 %recommended
Don'ts
  • Don't sand the thin roller-applied primer film — you'll cut through to the melamine
  • Don't lay it thick on rollers — it's an 8–12 g/m² tie-coat
  • Don't send a coat still wet with S30 under the lamp — blisters
  • Don't full-cure the primer if a UV primer goes on top — weaker intercoat adhesion
  • Don't leave open tins in daylight — it cures under UV/sunlight
  • Don't apply over silicone, wax or oil — it won't bond

Storage

Storage temperature
5–30 °C, closed opaque container, away from lightrecommended

Safety: Contains acrylate monomers (typical of UV materials) — skin sensitiser: nitrile gloves, eye protection, respirator when spraying. S30 is a flammable solvent. Shield eyes and skin from UV lamp radiation.
